This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Title for Reference.

Would it take to be able to invade and take over a Covenant Super Carrier? Is it even possible for the number of both generations currently still alive by 2552 to take over the ship, or would they need help from ODST's also?

Or would it be impossible even with these three forces attacking in unison?

I believe a force such as Red Team, that landed on Reach to protect the generators (without the casualties from fall and injuries) could take a Super Carrier themselves in a matter of days. And if things were to prove them complicated, a small detachment of Spartan III's (a couple of teams) would be certainly enough to deal with the Covenant in the extreme tight quarters of the ship.

Discuss.

Well it took one spartan, one ODST, and a couple of marines to take over one in First Strike.

And only Fred, Will and Linda to take over another in Ghosts of Onyx.

Yes, but I'm talking about an actual Covenant ship with a competent crew, not filled with Engineers or filled with Brutes that got wiped out because of their own lack in their security systems.

Plus, one of them was a Fred, Will and Linda took over a Destroyer, and John and co. took over an Assault Carrier, which is smaller than our Super Carrier, adding to the fact it was unimaginably under staffed.

  • 05.29.2012 7:11 AM PDT

well yes if they got plenty of ammunition, food, and about 20-30 spartan II's and 20 spartan III's they could do it

  • 05.29.2012 7:19 AM PDT

As far as just the actual(spartans must be listed MIA to keep illusion that spartans never die.) living spartans they could if John's famous luck held and had some ODST's helping and other apparent supplies (Locust mine's,food, ammo, ect)

Only with an AI, or some other form of electronic intrusion software. Otherwise, the Ship Master would probably either A) Evacuate the air and seal of those sections and wait for the Spartans to suffocate, B) detach that entire section of the ship and then glass it, C) destroy the ship once he realizes that he has lost it, or D) Call for reinforcements.

One of course. Chief can do it all by himself half-asleep!

Serious though. In a firefight against the entire crew hall by hall? a lot of firepower.

Or you can do what both previous successful ship take overs did (as I recall). Conquer bridge. vent atmosphere of the rest of the ship.

04 crew did it, and I'm fairly sure Fred and pals did it too. Hard to hold your ship when there is zero atmosphere and you didn't expect it. Elites fall for it as easily as brutes :).

Edit: I'd have to read the book again sometime, but I'm fairly sure in Ghosts of Onyx the brutes on the destroyer didn't just go "Oh, intruders in the hanger. meh" *flips channel on screen and drinks beer.*

I mean, cause seriously if the brutes didn't do much fighting, neither did those elites on the AJ. I'd see such an attack as being a "We must get to a spot we can plug AI into." and once there, vent atmosphere of nearly the entire ship.

This pretty much was the Red Flag mission for the Spartan IIs. They could easily take it. Cortana Hacks into the system and opens all airlocks so all covenant die. Any that survive are then hunted and killed by the spartans.Thay then capture whoever they need to and negotiate peace.

Easily? doubt it.

A: Must board ship
B: Must escape area of boarding. Whether that is hanger, or breach in hull.
C: Must find area to plug Cortana in
D: Hope she can actually break the security and vent atmosphere.
E: Hope the commander doesn't overload the core before Cortana can do anything.
F: Really, really hope he didn't send out a signal like "Being boarded, losing control of ship and atmospheric controls. Open fire on this location of my ship, it's where they were last in."

And everywhere in there, hope the command crew just doesn't eject that section of the ship if they are able to.

Remember, the part F actually happened on the AJ. And the other ships opened fired. When they reached Reach (lol), another message got out and guess what? The ENTIRE fleet there turned against the AJ.

Wasn't that outside the Unyielding Hierophant? Either way they would need to reach the Bridge to actually vent the ship, me thinks and reaching the bridge would take a while considering all the passengers present at the ship :P

  • 05.29.2012 8:42 PM PDT

Going off typical ship designs... Bridge or main engineering for control of systems.

Nah, Unyielding Hierophant was the admiral openly broadcasting. The covie AI broadcast over Reach I believe, and at 04 wreckage.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

But yeah, the Spartans would have a lot of ground to cover before they could reach either of those, and (assuming the Spartan III's got SPI) if they vented the ship, the Spartan III's would be pretty much screwed since their air supply lasts only 7 minutes, IIRC.

All the Covenant would need to do is send some Elite Rangers while the rest stay inside the bridge and just wait for the air supply of the Spartans to run out.

I'm sure that if they actually told me how damn big a Super Carrier was 6 years ago, my mind would have been absolutely blown at this accomplishment. I mean, my mind is retoractively blown but damn.

It's not like they did much, the AJ was terribly under-equipped as John put it, besides, they used an engineer tunnel to arrive near the tunnel if I'm not mistaken.
