Nice find. I remember that Bungie always sort-of said that Halo and Marathon were linked in a subtle way.

The marathon symbol is also on the side of the Pillar of Autumn. Actually, it's in a lot of places if you look.

Maybe the Forerunner ship is called Manus Celer Dei.

Perhaps they were the forerunners . . . the aliens from Marathon.

Yeah yeah. Get it? foreRUNNERS. and then you gotz Marathon. NOW ladies and gentleman, can you tell me what we do in a marathon? Yeah, we RUN. Runners! lolz

No but, it would be cool if Halo 3 ended all happily and then some dudes from Marathon show up and mess things up. (I have no clue what so ever about the story of Marathon.) Then that would lead Bungie into re-making the Marathon series. yay.

Fight hard, break bones >{o

forerunners: (from Cortana letter #2)
(in bold)
And what of the Giants who formed this world? So much to tell you, but so many more important things to do. There was a fourth. You couldn't have known. And I haven't forgotten.
It is a blurred line that lies at the edge of Godhood and Insanity. Guess which side of it I am on.
Feeling lucky?

Ionhorn i don't think Shiska is an ass just because he pointed out how in the marathon story line durandel was a rampant AI and at no point possessed a sword, let alone one named cortana.

Although if you refer to the behwulf (I don't know correct spelling) story from which both the cortana and durandel names were used then as I remember from my searches the story goes that both cortana and durandel were two swords formed from the same iron or something along those lines.

Also for the person who commented that perhaps the aliens from marathon were the forerunners you kinda have to narrow it down. I assume you mean the dominant force being the pfhor which could be given their name
fore - runner = pfhor - runner. Could be, though the only use the pfhor ever had for humans were as limited slaves and using them as bombs ("thank god you're here" lol marathon inside joke) .

Though given thier abilities in using reality distorting weaponry as such in the end of marathon 2 and whatever order marathon infinity plays out in (that whole warped reality deal) there could well be place for the pfor in the halo universe.
Personally from what I heard and have seen of the limited views of the engineers they kind of remind me of less well armed compilers they way they are described as technologically adept and curious little buggers. So perhaps there is a link there.

Ender told me about that. If that is the Manus Celer Dei and the Forerunner are the Jjaro then I will mail you both cookies.

Hmm... instead of trolling, couldn't you just correct the information? It could have been an honest mistake on his part.

Lol, and Mr. Pink, Shishka didn't point out any of that stuff that you did- it would have been more helpful I think. I should really go back and play Marathon, I hear those games are great- I would also be interested to note the different connections.

I've always wanted to play Marathon but I don't know how to install it. I heard it is hard.

I have walked the edge of the Abyss. I have governed the unwilling. I have witnessed countless empires break before me. I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear. [I was there with the Angel at the tomb] I have seen your future. And I have learned. There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy. I HAVE WON. Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong: THIS is the way the world ends. -Cortana

Yeah, people I know that have played it just go nuts about it. And I just love the way Bungie tells their stories, so I might have to look into it. I think I finally decided to play it back when I re-read the Cortana letters from some Marathon website, and reading the speculation back when people thought it was a hint at a future Marathon game. To see so many people fanatical about something that sounded so deep was really intriguing.
