Subject: Is Halo Reach's multiplayer competitive or casual?

Member of team Master Theory.

5th Mythic Conqueror of ODST.
If you would like to know more about Mythic difficulty please go to this thread. Thank you.

Please do not send me "recruitment messages" as I'm not interested in joining any groups currently.

Equipment (and all AAs but Jetpack) would have been much better if it was visible on the player model so that opponents could engage combat informed.
Seemingly random Bubbles or Regens when the opponent starts to think they're losing a battle is increidbly frustrating.

Equipment would also have benefited from longer respawn times and being treated more like power items than mid-tier items.

But you didn't spawn with equipment. You had to go get them on the map and possibly fight for them. And a regen was fairly easy to counter.

Equipment was also impossible to see coming, infinitely easy to use (a single button) and respawned insanely fast (generally 60 seconds, I believe).

Throw down a regen in a choke area, and your group wins. Put down a bubble while returning a flag, nobody a sizable distance away can do anything to you; etc.

I am not saying they were a horrible addition, but they were gimmickey and only added more chaos. South originally had commented that people abuse the gimmicks Reach offers in its ranked playlists, but all those gimmicks and bad gametypes still existed in H3's ranked games as well. That's all I was saying.

The 343 forums suck. They're full of retarded kids and mods who got butthurt in the B.net forums for being told that they're bad.

Alright:

Equipment was bad, but not nearly as bad as AAs. Deal?

With things like custom games and forge, Reach can be made either way. There are gametypes and maps for both the "casual" and "competetive" mindset.

So both, I guess.

Nope. SouthPole isn't a person. He's the avatar of the force of tryhards everywhere. He stalks the web looking for retards to set straight. He can not be stopped by mere bans or thread locks for he shall rise anew.

Arena will never be truly competitive because it lacks competitive gametypes. Even at high level it's still just good players abusing the -blam!- out of the gimmicks.

MLG in Reach has good gametypes, but it lacks a ranking system which is desperately needed.

So the two "competitive" lists in Reach are hardly even competitive. Add that with horrendously designed default settings and you have a game with no competitive merit.

H3 still had AR starts in its ranked titles... And equipment, for that matter.

Default H3 was not nearly as bad as Reach. Obviously, H3 had better settings available, but the default gametypes were still way ahead of Reach in terms of competitive play.

Default reach is casual. And, the game-type options do not allow for a full competitive experience.

Halo: 3 was designed around competitive game-play... for the most part. Yet, it had plenty of game-type options for even the most casual game-play experience.

See why Reach sucks?

I'm sorry America is busy helping others in the world and actually making a difference.

Something Canada will never do.

neither, it's just awful.

Casual. The only playlists that can be considered competitive are Arena and MLG.
