Oh Bungie, how you vex me! I have been reading your job openings for the past few years and have applied many time to so many positions that I am qualified for. I have also applied to several positions that I am NOT qualified for. What does one have to do to join the Bungie Elite?

I remember jumping off the school bus in days of yore to run back and check your website for updates. Anything Halo or anything Bungie and I was hooked. I have played thousands of matches and have loved you unconditionally. This affair has been like this for 11 years now. My how the time has flown!

I went through college. I received a bachelors in 4 years flat in digital media design. I kept applying. But all I got was the "thank you for applying to Bungie!" email. I want more. This relationship between us is one sided to say the least, but I still love you. I still miss you when I wake up in the morning.
Never have I been upset with you. Even when you left Halo behind. For I was excited for new frontiers.

I have been out of college for two years now and I still apply regularly. Waiting. Hoping that you notice me. With the experience that I have accrued, I have only been applying to positions that I am qualified for. Instead of Sr. Creative Designer type positions. I have volunteered to work from the ground up and yet you do not hear me. I fear that the dreaded HR department has auto-filtered my name out of candidacy based off of mere attempts to join your family.

Since graduating, I have become an adjunct faculty member at a local school. I have been teaching basic design principles, photography, and video editing. I have received top marks from my students, yet I yearn for you - Bungie.

When I watch the videos that you have put out, I see your past and your future and I realize that I want to be part of it. I am your type of people. I mean, who else would write this to you? I feel like I know all of you already. A kind of bond that most internet friends form instantly. The camaraderie!

I suppose this must seem like a desperate and rhetorical post. And it is. I can do nothing more but beg to become part of your family. But somehow, I don't think groveling is part of becoming a part of your company... But I could be wrong, friend.

In short, (TL;DR) I would like a response on what it would take to get me over there so I can prove to be a valuable member of the Bungie family. My interests lie in computer administration, networking, and design (ui) work.

This is by no means a goodbye. I will continue applying to your company for each position I feel qualified for. After 4 years of applying - it feels like I am just getting started when I think of being with you.

-EDIT- I originally posted this in The Flood and was told to post it here. If mods want to lock and delete the original post.

I would lol if OP lives on the East Coast - so he can spend $1,500 in airfare, hotel, and other costs getting an interview and then getting rejected.

You know where I live... :D

And yes, indeed, it is on the East Coast. But it'd be worth it for a shot at Bungie. Shoot, I could probably put THAT on a resume...

What you should do is show what you have done. And what you can do. Maybe some little tiny project of yours for fun, and test your abilities.

Like a demo-reel? I have never been confident in my artistry, that's why I wanted to use my more natural skills at computer/network maintenance. I am more confident in that. I am sure that I would learn more in a week (testing, that is) at Bungie, then I have learned at college/self teaching.

EDIT: Shoot. I'd like to moderate forums for them, but even those jobs require years of experience nowadays. Anything that gets my foot in the door. I can develop skills rather quickly.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

You need to beef up whatever resume you have.
Then you might have a better chance.

Maybe if you stop being a cry baby and actually had a portfolio, you could be considered.

From what I read you got a degree in digital media design. How the -blam!- does that translate to a position doing "Administration" and "Networking"? You haven't got the experience or required education for either.

That's all I want! If I am not good enough. They can tell me so. I just feel like most jobs auto-filter any candidate that isn't absolutely perfect. I mean, I would do it too. However, they keep telling people to apply. I have been in their system for years. Any "entry" level position would be excellent! (Though, in game companies - there are rarely "entry" level positions).

Aye, build a portfolio like everybody else, show Bungie what you can do with in your field of expertise. It doesn't count if you believe you're capable for certain jobs, that's for Bungie to decide.

Remember Bungie doesn't take people with out a good portfolio, put together your portfolio, if they like what you can do, you will get in, if not, then you need to improve it in order to get in.

Thanks for your response. You have no idea what my degree entailed. Please do not act as if you do know. It was a pretty wide base of knowledge that we had to learn. It was an experimental degree that was meant to have several "specializations" however, it did not. Over the course of 4 years I learned BIS, Video, Broadcast, and Graphic Design. It was all over the place.

As stated earlier - I have taught myself (and elected to take further courses) in the aforementioned subjects. The fact that I am a teacher (adjunct) at my age speaks that I can learn any subject quickly. But, I'm sure you won't concede to that. Because you are a forum troll who is unhappy with his life.

Also, as mentioned earlier, I do not feel confident in my artistry. That's why I am focusing on an ENTRY LEVEL position at their company.

I hardly think of it as being a cry-baby when I have silently applied to several positions over the past 4 years. I have been dedicated to this company and have always had a positive attitude towards them. I'm not asking for a job. I'm asking for an interview. TWO ENTIRELY different things.

I'm not sure of your background either. But most people do not dedicate years of their lives to a dream and attempt to follow through with it. Most people are scared of it. I am too, but I have always wanted to work here.

Also, you spelled your screen name wrong. I hardly think you are a credible source of authority.

So you have no real substantial experience outside of your university course? You should probably apply at other smaller company's first. Then as you get more experienced add demonstrations to your portfolio and your past experience to your résumé. :-)

Engineering:
Experience writing C++ and C# (or Java)
BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience

You don't have either.

Why do you have to work at Bungie? Why not get a job somewhere else to get experience, and pursue a career at Bungie another time? There are loads of other game companies of the same calibre and bro'ness of Bungie.

I would want to work at Bungie, but I would also like to work at Google or any other cool software company. So I picked an area I enjoy and focused on it. Hopefully when I finish my degree I can start somewhere and make it to one of these companies in the field I've specialised into.

A Jack of all trades is a master of none.

Keep that in mind. Pick something, for example art an keep working on it. Build a portfolio. Do free art for people to get experience to further build your portfolio and hone your skills.

Otherwise you're just any graduate with a meaningless degree screaming "give me job pl0x".

Thank you. That is more of what I am looking for.

I don't need to work for Bungie. It just has been a dream for me. I meant this thing to be a semi-serious joke. But, as always, people don't understand my humor and have to trample everything.

Again, though, I am not asking for a job. Merely an interview.

Good points about specializing. I am working on that currently. Also, not in art. (Networking, etc.)

Edit: Cool aside. Someone just send me a text to setup windows machines on their network. Sweet. :D

OP, I wish you luck on all of your gaming company endeavors and if we do see you here with some gold text or whatnot in the future, drinks on me.

It has always been fascinating to me the different types of people that there are in this world. More fascinating still is how many of them revert to trolling on the internet. I would bet that you are the nicest person in real life, if I was a betting man.

Nah, I'm a dreamer. I set the goals high. It's what motivates me. It is very cool to see the types of jobs that are available. Besides, I was a kid - still am in some respects - when I applied to those jobs. I'm getting a little better with realism, but not much apparently (according to some of you).

  • 05.31.2012 1:06 PM PDT

I run Skirmish!!!

If i was you, i would apply for a smaller gaming company and work your way up. From what i've read, a lot of bungie employee's worked at other gaming companies before getting the job at bungie. Maybe do some network support or whatever your interested in for two years or so instead of teaching, then try applying again after you have a solid resume built up.

To be honest though, just having a four year college degree gets your no where with today's economy. I'm a senior in college and after seeing so many older friends get that piece of paper while not being able to find a job, I went a different route and while getting my criminal justice degree, im also interning with a local police department, doing volunteer work and helping the community to put me above everyone else with the same degree so that i may be on the top 1 or 2 on the hiring list for the Police department.

I would recommend you do something similar but in the gaming industry

Please stop complaining about the 'death of a loved one' it's my job. They probably deserved it anyways. Here's a warning, if you keep making pentagrams out of the neighbors livestock I will personally come to your house and kill everyone you love. Now leave me alone, I got to get back to work.

He'd have instantly stopped and knelt down, one fist on the ground, hoping to be impervious to the officer's attacks. When this would have failed and he's in the back of the police car, he'd blame his predicament on his friends for not being team players.

I wouldn't consider what he said to be trolling. You applied for jobs you know you couldn't do. At that point you are wasting not only your time but also Bungie's time.

If you seriously want a job you have to make Bungie want you, not the other way around. Get an impressive portfolio, show you can do what needs to get done, and then apply.

Thanks for the input fellas! You are all right, though. The votes speak for themselves. I need more experience and training.

Again, I would like to say that I meant it mostly as a joke. The original post was supposed to be named: Ode to Bungie. If you have ever read the Ode to the Nice Guys, that was the same feel I was going for.

While I very much want to work for Bungie (I mean, who doesn't? inb4 troll) I realize I have much to learn. I'm still pretty young and have time to complete this goal.

I didn't expect to be contacted in either case. It was a longshot, but hey, whatever! I tried. I feel that I expressed myself well in my Ode. Time to put my nose to the grindstone. (fingers to the keyboard)

I'm out!
