I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

I mean i was re-playing cea and i saw the size of mc compared to the longsword. Why on earth did the unsc make 737 sized fighters? The sabres and f-99s are way smaller and do a good job of taking on the covies. They also take up less space.

Snakie Purple.

"Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog, Hamdog"-Hamdog.

Twatter

Room for the engines/weapon payloads. Also they are based on modern-day stealth bombers.

I remember something about they could be equipped with a slipspace drive too.

But either way, they are designed as fighter-bombers/interceptors. They are big for more firepower.

While the Saber is smaller, it's not good against things besides fighters.

Old GTs; RebelRobot, Flamedude

Well a Longsword is a fairly equal match for a Seraph. And the way it makes that match more equal is sheer size and therefore engine power, armaments etc.

The Sabre must be the first space ship in UNSC history that can hold its own against a Covenant counterpart that has the same general size.

The Longsword isn't really a dedicated fighter -- a heavy fighter if you must call it something -- but is primarily designed for ordnance delivery.

The Sabre, however, is a dedicated fighter.

I really don't see the point in having a slipdrive in a longsword.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Scouting nearby stuff, and not having to deploy them at the beginning of a battle, or wait for them after it, which could be fatal to the cruiser/carrier.

But slipdrives are not cheap and can't be fixed easily like a cars engine, and even if all that were true, it would take months to get anywhere and thats a bigger ship. Not to mention that short jumps don't work with the UNSC. If you try to travel 1,000 km, you could be 4 million km off target.

It would not take months to get anywhere... It was 2 months from Reach to Harvest IIRC. And who said it would be short jumps? Besides, what's a "short" jump? Half a day should be long enough...

Wombats are atmospheric craft, and sabres are quite rare, probably very expensive and still partially prototypes... (not sure about the last part)

Ok I'll give you that. But its like I said you can be off for million of km. Thats the whole reason why in the books, you read about the UNSC statying in normal space and taking an hour to get somewhere and not get jumping into slip for three seasonds. Also as I said, slipdrives are not cheap and easy to repair so whats the point in sticking them in a longsword. Also the whole recon thing doesn't work, since thats the reason the Prolwer corps is around.

-Watertribe-

Longswords can't support slipspace drives. They are big to make room for engine, cryo chambers, and weapons. If a Longsword were to enter slipspace it would be shredded under pressure.
