1. It's an eyesore. If there are "dead groups" around bungie.net, people are clicking through each others profiles or even your own and you constantly see them. There is no reason to keep them there other than history or nostalgic reasons. Then they would leave that group if they no longer wanted it attached to their profile.

2. Finding active groups. With people looking around for the groups that are actually active, have the time you when click into a group to see that all the posts on the first page are archived, then you spend countless times trying to find some sort of activity just to join up.Additional site functionality would alleviate this problem, but if you're looking for active groups at the moment, why not look in The Classifieds?

3. Names. Believe it or not, there are a bunch of groups that are named after something such as Bungie Trademarks, yet there is no discussion going on and the only reason they were created it too just steal the name. They're just sitting on a name like they own it but nothing is going on.The same could be said about any group; first in, best dressed.

4. I'm not one to speak on the server side of things, but I doubt that this excuse would be far more valid than any of the other ones. We don't know what Bungie servers are capable of. By deleting them, there might not be any noticeable difference.I highly doubt there is a problem keeping the number existing groups.

First we need to established "What is a dead group?" Once we have that we can work from there. Easy. A dead group is one that has been deleted because the administrator(s) and/or group members no longer place any value in it.
I want to make it clear that I do not like the idea of having substantial content (in this case the group and everything associated with it) that has been created by user(s), deleted just because nobody has been posting it in for a while, for example.
I think that some of the reasons that have been given (not just yours) are extremely unfair to those who have built up a sub-community only to have it deleted for some trivial reason, especially when the reason was not specified anywhere.
