While some of the theories posted in this section are good, you have to take into account the "business" aspect of the game.

Bungie won't include other Spartans Halo 3 for one simple reason; the games and the books are two completely different entities. That being said, Bungie cannot simply grab and drag an idea or character from the book and into the game. As silly as it is, not every Halo fan has read the books, so it wouldn't make sense to the people who haven't read the series.

As we've all seen through the games, not a single mention has been given to the possibility that other Spartans exist/existed. We all know they did, because of the books, but not EVERYONE knows that.

So that's my rant. No more threads on "wouldn't it be cool if another Spartan _____." I'm 99.9% sure it won't happen. (Sue me if it does.)

while I agree new spartans will not be added this late in the trilogy, Im going to disagree about the idea dragging because im pretty sure tartarus was in the books before the game.

Even though the games and books are different......

Bungie may decide to put a Spartan in the next game, but still make it different than the books.

I sure as hell would want to play as another Spartan rather than the freakin Arbiter.

If you read the handbook to HALO CE it says clear as day that spartan 117 is the last remaining spartan.

no its not... they are not exactly the same story lines.... yes both the books and the game include a master chief... it doesnt mean they are the same stories.... besides if they add another spartan halo 3 will be -blam!- up and it will be just playnly -blam!-... most ppl havent read the books and they would be really dissapointed if they saw a new spartan

C.R.E.A.M.

First of all, you're wrong, at the end of the first strike, there are three other immediate spartans alive, and one other believed to be alive somewhere else in the galaxy. What you, the topic creator, fail to realize, is that bungie is All about telling an awesome story. They have a halo BIBLE, created to describe all things halo. They worked very closely with Eric Nylund as he wrote the books, and they are approved by bungie. The majority of the whole story, is in the books.

Way to speak the truth! It would be cool I guess but get real, they wouldn't put that in the game. MC is one of a kind, and theyre gonna keep it that way. As for the books, its like the star wars trilogy and the expanded universe books, nobody reads that crap, not even george lucas. I mean come on, in the expanded universe, they kill off chewbacca, you cant do that!
Yes the books are aproved by Bungie we know that... but Bungie said they are not the same stories... I dont want to point out whats in the books thats not in the game

I don't see how people can fuss about putting in another Spartan when Bungie put the ARBITER in Halo 2. WTF? ARBITER?

I would of rather had another Spartan. Wouldn't everyone else?

if bungie wanted to, they could put the spartans in at any moment, only it would have to be a surprise. In the games, it was neevr stated that there were no other Spartans alive. They could show up in the beginning. They could have Lord Hood tell a small story of how they got back. They could show up in the middle of the game, and brought a ton of marines forces, and other allied covenant forces to fight the traitors. They can be brought into the game, and it is a bad idea not to bring em in.

Bungie could put the other Spartans in the game if they wanted to. The books and game have the same stroy. The books are Canon. There is no reason why they couldn't add another Spartan in with some explanation.

i just want to point one thing. why is that the books say they continue the award winning xbox game?
i mean why put that on the books when we know they don't incorperate anything in to the games?
also someone mentioned earllier if tarturas was taken from the books and yes he was taken from the books so its possible they can take a spartan from the books if they can take tartarus from the books and put him in to the games.

Well, after the intitial release of the trailer and the movies and theories that have passed, I am having second thoughts. However, all the "abilities for each Spartan" -blam!- has to stop. I KNOW that would never happen. It would turn into a First-person RTS, what with switching between Spartans and stuff.

THEN it just wouldn't be Halo.

At that point in time everyone in the Halo universe believed he was the last Spartan. They had no way of knowing that the covenant didn't completely glass Reach and that some Spartans alive.

The books are canon. Anything in the books could be added to the games.

i really dont know why everybody wants more spartans in the game... its not halo it just messes the "last kick ass spartan in the world" theme.... just like the arbiter fvked up halo 2 so will more spartans... sure the arbiter is cool and has more story but it just not cool to play as him... i really like halo 1 and they should keeep it that way

Well if they were included in the game, Bungie could always explain it in the game.

This is kinda how I feel about it.
There is still a time lapse between the ending of the third book and the beginning of Halo 2. So, its possible that something could have happened to the other Spartans that may be revealed in the next book. However, I think if Bungie does decide to include other Spartans in Halo 3, it will have to come as a surprise as a surprise to Master Chief, and therefore the player as well. Thus creating a plot hole, because based on the books, Master Chief already knows that other Spartans are alive, because theoretically, he returned to the space station with them.
Personally, I hope they bring back the other 4 or 5 Spartans, along with Dr. Halsey (for those of you who know who she is). I feel that doing so would bring Master Chief's life full circle.
Also, its possible that the Halo movie, based on The Fall of Reach, will be released around the release of Halo 3, therefore introducing all of the characters who are important to Chief.
There's a lot more going on in his mind aside from, I have to finish this fight.

I don't think it will be possible to have a Spartan in Halo 3 simply because they wouldn't be able to make them powerful enough. I don't think the AI would have developed enough for you to look on them and believe that they can fight just as well as you can. In order for them to be half decent, they would have to have inherent hacks (increased damage, invinicbility). They wouldn't be able to die either (like Johnson and half jaw in H2) because that would interrupt the storyline. If they were included, they would be really lame. Think about it, it would be like 343 GS except it can attack.
