Subject: Ridley Scott's Aliens and Halo

I was watching Aliens recently and noticed some striking similarities between it and Halo. The spaceship(not sure the name of it) in Aliens looks alot like the UNSC frigates-or maybe its the other way around. The enviroment suits they wear in Aliens look like a pre-cursor to Mjolinr armor, and the face huggers are like a less hardcore version of a flood spore....any thoughts from the community on this?

Wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some inspiration there. Halo probably borrowed from different sources, certainly Ringworld.

TIE ME TO A TREE!!!!!

Aliens had UNSC marines, even Sgt.Johnson's brother was in command.

Alien and Aliens have been major contributors to inspiring modern day sci-fi media. It's no surprise at all.

I'd take chest implantation over face -blam!- and chest bursting any day, thank-you-very-much.

not me bro, I wouldn't want to be part of the flood, not having control of my thoughts and actions but being aware of what going on sounds like a nightmare, plus you gotta listen to Gravemind blabber on about nothing all day. I'd rather be cold and dead after the alien burst out of my chest.

Pretty sure Flood forms kill off the host but continue using it's body.

This. Jenkins was simply strong willed in comparison to the very hungry, very weak flood infection form that nabbed him.

Similarities between Alien(s) and Halo are nothing new of course.
Everybody knows about them.

But I watched Prometheus the other day and in addition to the numerous Alien references/similarities (no big suprise of course) I also saw some things that made me go "wait...was that a nod to Bungie?"

Take that odd helmet the android is wearing for instance, which basically is a carbon copy of the Marathon helmet (the original from the Marathon series).

I doubt Scott will admit it is, but it does feel that way.

Infection forms are vastly inferior to facehuggers.

The more coordinated they become, the more lax and tame. They like to sit back and watch their combat forms do the work.

Feral infection forms on the other hand come in bigger numbers and are more resourceful. If they could raise dead bodies in CE, oh boy, I'd be real scared.

Of course, a facehugger would be more terrifying. Acid blood, jumping small thing, strong vice grip. That's like 3 traits from apex animal predators! And I'm sure there are a lot more.

Goddamn, all this time I was just thinking about the Elite mandibles and headgear and Flood. I didn't realize that the UNSC was also involved! Thanks!

Please. Don't make me laugh.

Nope. All minds are apart of the Flood. It is why the Gravemind's reasoning for doing what he does--to bring all under one wisdom--actually makes sense because you're not dead.

Like that Marine in Human Weakness. Your body is trashed, but you now live in eternity as a part of the mind. I call it Hell.

Spare me the laughs of thinking he doesn't borrow from anything else...

Notice how the guns in the first Alien movie can remind you of Halo: Combat Evolved's assault rifle.

James Cameron, made Aliens

Anyway, Bungie(and a lot of developers of that era) Took a bunch of inspired design choices from those films, the Flood forms and face huggers are loosely comparable, the marines armour in Halo: CE is strikingly similar and so is their casual attitudes to facing imminent death on a daily basis.

So yeah, a heap of cues where taken from the Alien franchise.

There were no guns in the first Alien movie. There was a flame-thrower that was built from the frame of an M16 Assault rifle.

There were laser pistol props, though they obviously never got fired onscreen. The flamethrower made from M16 parts didn't appear until the second film.

Huh, I swear the M16 version was in Alien it turns out it was more tube like and made out of scratch.
I was however, correct about the lack of ballistic/projectile weaponry aboard the Nostromo.
