I've been playing Halo for a long time now. I've played in a few tournies and I'm a pretty decent player. I've noticed that a lot of people out there don't know a lot of the correct tips and tricks in multiplayer. So I'm here to help answer questions over multiplayer. Ask me some specific questions and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

I'm going to give a quick run down on some tips for right now. I'll alaborate on them later.

1. Get friends and play with them often. Practice makes perfect.
2. Participate in as many tournaments or comepetetive games as possible. These will improve your skills very quickly.
3. Use the pistol as your number 1 weapon most of the time. Go for headshots. The pistol can kill in either 3(to the head), or 5 bodyshots. * You can shoot the first 2 shots anywhere on the body. Just make sure that the third shot is on the head.
4. Know the maps. I'm talking about all of the maps. Play race on every map by yourself. It really helps you map out the maps in your mind. Don't just learn Blood Gulch and Sidewinder. Know them ALL.
5. Go after powerups. Powerups make and break you. If you can't control them then you mind as well just not play against the pros as they will own you. Make sure that the other team doesn't get these.
6. Start timing. This is huge. Timming is considered PERFECTLY FINE. I've yet to see a tourney that doesn't allow timers. Timming is considered a huge advantage since you can tell when the powerups and weapons respawn(come back). This is how weapon and powerup respawns work.
Lets say I'm playing on chillout. At the start of the game, I start my timer. The overshield respawns every minute. So I walk over and pick it up. When my clock reaches 1 minute the overshield will be back. So i know that the overshield will be there once every minute for a fact.
Most items respawn every 1 or 2 minutes. There are a few exceptions that I'll get at later on. Timers just ofer a huge advantage. Think how hard it would be to kill a guy running around with active camo, the overshield, and the rocket launcher all of the time. Yeah, that's what timing does. To get a timer you can go to walmart and get a stop watch, or you can go to radioshack and get one with big numbers for around $10-$15. If you want to get a very good timer then go to talkingtimer.com These actually will anounce the time and count down to your respawn time. Very useful. These run $20 w/shipping. They're well worth it.
7. Use the rocket launcher in most of the small levels. This is the key weapon that will lead you to kills in small levels like chillout. So make sure you grab it.
8. Quick Active camo. You can turn instantly invisible after picking up active camo by shooting a short burst from a plasma pistol, plasma rifle, needler, shotgun, or assault rifle. This is a very neat trick that will save you so many times. You can also turn invisible quickly after shooting a weapon with long invisible recovery(like the rocket) by switching to one of the weapons above. Rocket/one of those weapons is a great combo. Rocket, switch, turn invisible, repeat.
9. Sniping. Lots of people have trouble with sniping, esepcially upclose. The key to getting good at sniping is to practice with all snipes in small levels like chillout. ONLY use snipes though, not the pistol. Don't use zoom either. Zoom inables autoaim, so it's easier to shoot. If you get used to not using auto aim(no zoom), then you will drastically improve your aim with 2x and 10x zoom.
In most situations, it's better to use 2x zoom. It allows you to scope the area much more effeciently.
10. strafing. Straff while you shoot. Make your opponent work for their kill.
11. Grenade unsuspecting opponents. If you have an opponent in front of you, then throw a grenade infront of them and then shoot them. This pretty much garrantees you a kill and gives them little time to react.
12. Pretty much all weapons are useful, except for the needler. If you're playing against even half decent opponents, then they shouldn't be able to get touched by the needler. So stick away from this weapon unless you're looking to use it for active camo.
13. Play smaller levels. Most tournies are played in levels like prisoner, HH, and Chillout. People usually tend to stick away from Blood Gulch and Sidewinder.
14. Learn to watch the screens on your tv. If you're playing split screen then take note of where everyone is and use it to your advantage. This is critical when playing with a teamate. You need to be able to look at his screen to find enemies.
15. Take your time. Don't just run and gun. Strategize. If you can't kill an opponent before they can get to safe cover, then simply don't shoot at them. Note where they are and where they're going and use that to your knowledge to cut them off and kill them unsuspectingly.
16. XXY One of the greatest tricks in halo is XXY. It's a reloading trick that allows you to reload while having another gun out. EX: Lets say I have a pistol and an assault rifle. I 3 shot kill someone and I want to reload, so I press x x y. I now have my assault rifle out. I then switch back to my pistol when i hear the "clicking" sound of my pistol reloading, and discover that my pistol has 12 bullets in it. Very useful technique.
17. XXL Basically the same as above. This just allows you to throw a grenade while reloading.
18. BLB This allows you to do 2 quick melee punches in a row. It can be useful, but you have to watch out for the left over grenade.
19. Using grenades to propel you places or to get you weapons is an awsome tactic. You can use frags to help you reach objects in any multiplayer level due to halo's awsome physics. Try this one. Go to damnation and stand in the doorway infront of the rocket pit. Aim your cursor right on the rocket launcher and through a frag. The frag will bounce right behind the rocket and it will send the RL comming straight at you. Press X and you will have it in your hands. Cool, right? I'll talk about more of these later.
20. The double jump. To double jump. Jump and crouch at the same time. You can get ontop of more objects using this technique. You can get ontop of the stones in Hang em high if you use double jump. You can also get ontop of the doorways in prisoner. To get even higher in your jump, you can melee. It gets you just a smidgon higher. Grenades can help you reach higher places too.
21. Window jumping. you can jump through windows by jumping and crouching at the right time. you can use this in chillout.

That's it for right now. I'm off to bed. Sorry for the grammatical errors. I'll put some more stuff up when I have the time.
