All i can say is that no matter what the game will still look sweet because its on a XBox360, and whos going to make a game with -blam!- graphics for the 360?

I know I'm going to get flamed for this but meh

Oblivion. So far into it I really don't like the way it looks. Sure it's expansive and looks good from far away but up close it looks almost as bad as the PS2...not to mention the game play. But I digress.

Now then, somebody said stuff about harnessing the 1337ness that is the 360. Remember kiddies, the 360 is still in its infancy. No one will be able to push the envelope for another 2 years or so. That being said compare Halo CE to Halo 2. CE came out early in the Xboxs career. Halo 3 will come out early in the 360s career.

HOLD MY DRINK.

Yes infancy in the terms of the mass market having a 360 but I can bet you the farm that Bungie had the main architecture of the 360 and has been building for that environment for who knows how long. In a since Bungie might have had a whole year head start on other studios in coding in the 360. So thats why its hard to say but I know that they wont dissapoint.

They may have known the hardware of the system but how long have they had a workable programable kit?

Regardless of all this the point still remains that what was shown was a cutscene and cutscenes are programed at a lower defination the gameplay therefore game play will be nice but won't look as pimp as the trailer.

This butt ugly, stuttering, always loading, snooze fest sits dormant in a drawer. I don't understand the love-fest surrounding it.

I feel a little de ja vu occurring.

You all remember the stunning Halo 2 E3 trailer, that turned out to be too much for the big black box to cope with...

Oh, and to whoever thought that Peter Moore was a reliable source of fact - Ssshhhhh...

I think his title in the documentary was "Dookie Shoveler".

Oblivion has the best graphics of any 360 game LET ALONE PS2 game that I own... o.o

  • 06.08.2006 8:52 AM PDT

There is very little in the trailer to suggest that the engine will struggle at all. None of the effects are new (they've all been done in other games), not to mention the fact that some aspects are downright crappy. The terrain away from the wreckage is bland and has no features. The terrain only goes back to where the Chief walks from in that direction.

Bungie can definitely hit this level of detail, especially if they have the engine running so well (possibly) a year ahead of ship. Many games are run with the lowest settings during development to get a good framerate with the optimizations pushed until the end.

The trailer was real-time. If they can do that now, there is no doubt in my mind that the game will look better than what we saw by release.

Edit: And Oblivion has the best landscape graphics in a game bar none.

You must be kidding. This isn't the place for it, but I'll just say that the loading screens and the stuttering during in-game loads would be unforgivable in any other game. That's what bothers me the most (about the visuals anyway). Next is the expressionless NPCs. Riddick on Xbox did a better job with NPCs.

My original post was based on comments made by a Bungie staffer in the documentary.

...and I'm done discussing Oblivion here.

i thought he may have meant this as well, but possibly also meant they're setting the bar for their future endeavors (post-halo titles from bungie)

My guess would be just the fact that it will be a 360 game in HD says alot, also
how I feel about Halo and Bungie is this (and just my thoughts) Halo to me has always seemed to be ahead of it's time when you compare to other games,
1 example, Ghost Recon. Now I love that game on the 360, graphics look good and online play isn't bad but no other game seems to play as smooth as Halo as far as how you can move your person around, jump, switching weapons back and forth and be able to use them right away. look how nice Halo 2 looked on the old XBox and when using HD cables to a HD TV? In the future games are always going to look better in some way but no matter what I think we will all be very pleased with the finished game and I think Halo will be a game around even when your kids are playing games. Bungie must have a patient on something being used in Halo because I can't believe other games still have not come close to being as smooth even online as Halo

...I said in the original post that I know the engine is running the trailer. That doesn't mean they can do the same thing under the ... stress of AI logrithms.

is the AI in base 10? *rimshot*

I agree...Halo got me back into FPS and silmutaneously destroyed me ever playing one other than Halo due to its fluid controls and gameplay. No game comes close to the feel of Halo.

Back on subject, when i watched the documentary and heard that line, i wondered the exact same thing....."wait a minute, they're not sure this is what they can do"

Also, somebody made a short comparison between the 360 and the Xbox, and owning both, i have to agree. As of right now, the original xbox is light years faster at loading and gameplay than the 360

Halo 3 will be like the trailer in game , I am sure. Look at Gears Of War looks great and running the 360 at 30% of its capabilties. I'm sure Halo 3 will have no problem at all.

If Bungie says this is what the game will look like -in-game, I believe them. And they have said many times this is what the game will look like if not better.

From the "Making of the E3 Halo 3 Trailer" video

"What we're building here is our bar, what we're going to shoot for in real game play."
- Jay W.

Thats what they are shooting for. Thats means when they play the trailer, you can insert a little "Actual gameplay may vary" disclaimer on the screen.

I hope it does look that good. Under no stretch of the imagination has Bungie ever said that, without a doubt, the game will look like that or better.

I'm a huge GOW fan ... but that doesn't mean anything in this case. Different games, different engines, different company. Add to it the fact that their trailers contained action similar to that found in the game and it's really not a valid comparison. The GOW trailers had gunfire, multiple enemies, explosions, etc... The H3 trailer on the other hand ...

Nice rant,Witch, but it lacks support.

For the record ... My 360 runs every other game just fine and my display is a 65" HDTV.

If this were the only reason, the why is it being reported that Bethseda is releasing a patch to help combat the load times and glitchiness of the game?

As far as no support.....what more support do you need then Halo and Halo 2.....at the time (2001) halo:ce had the best graphics you could find of any game.....3 years later....bungie released halo 2 which yes was not quite as spectacular looking as the first trailer....still is one of the best looking xbox game....especially in HD.....so maybe bungie wont get the game to look quite as good as the trailer....but id be willing to bet anyone it will be close.....bungie hasnt let us down yet....and i dont expect them to start now

First, Gameplay > Graphics

Second, the Halo 3 trailer was running off a final 360 dev kit which probably means that the graphics you saw there are going to be as close to the final game.

If you read through this thread, I'm not saying that Halo3 won't look and play great (the whole "best.game.evar." thing is just useless). I was simply identifying a quote from the trailer that might indicate they aren't quite sure if they can match the visuals from the trailer in-game. Go back to the start and read the original post for further clarification.

To take this a bit further into the "hidden meaning" territory that so many of you enjoy: Bungie is very careful about what they release to the public. Is that line their "out" if the game doesn't measure up to the trailer?
