Halo CE - Best campaign
Halo 2 - Best characters, music
Halo 3 - Best all-round features (customs, Forge & Theatre etc)
ODST - Best story, Firefight and music
Wars - Best cutscenes
Reach - Best at being the worst HaloThis summed up my view quite well.
H3 had the best customs and Theater was a godsend. Although I also liked the characters (Johnson, Arbiter, 343 Guilty Spark) and music (still felt like Halo). Grunt Birthday might not have affected everyone like in H2 but I love how it still does damage and detonates grenades without sending them flying everywhere. This is great! The Reach and Anniversary Grunt Birthday are just graphics. Speaking of which, H3 laid the basis for classic skulls (I think the ones in H2 are better). Anniversary screwed that for the sake of "preservation" and threw in lame skulls.
Reach had the worst everything (file browser was a nice idea but it's such a pain to navigate), but it's campaign was especially abomination. The only likable character is Jorge and the music sounds terrible. Every time I hear Reach praise, usually in terms of replayability and AI, it drives me nuts. This is especially why I dislike Reach. It ruined the Spec Ops and Zealot ranks. I much prefer the grenade spamming, betraying Spec Ops in H3 and H2 than the ones not throwing any grenades at all.
Remember that argument I had with a random on one of your H3 videos?You mean the one about H3 AI having semi-Armory skull effect? I resented conceding but there's just no way the debate could have ended.
Btw, if you're interested, be on the lookout for my YT analysis on the H4 E3 campaign demo. I'll be including my thoughts in annotations and description. It's going to be comprehensive!
Here's a preview:
-do I feel threatened for the right reasons (intimidation by tactics)?
-how often are checkpoints given? Can checkpoints be delayed infinitely as in CE or are they permanently lost?*
-is the music endlessly looping? If so, is it possible to put an end to it like in previous campaigns?*
-is exiting the map impeded?*
-does the game leave AI intact if bypassing them? Does bypassing them affect their behavior/positioning?*
-does the game utilize assets like Co-op teleporting to keep players in the map/objective?*
The * means that it probably won't appear in the demo. Nonetheless, I ask the questions anyway, just in case. I do not want another Halo 3 (as in campaign) or Reach. H2, CE, or something better are what I'm expecting.
