Halo CE - Best campaign
Halo 2 - Best characters, music, multiplayer and maps
Halo 3 - Best all-round features (customs, Forge & Theatre etc)
ODST - Best story, Firefight and music
Wars - Best cutscenes
Reach - Best at being the worst Halo
Halo 2 is the retarded version of Halo 3. The best characters were the ODST squad. Same with music. The best multiplayer and maps were Halo 3. This is just so much stupid I can't even begin. Halo Reach's Forge is far superior to Halo 3's. It's the only thing I give it, but you're still an idiot for saying Halo 3's forge is better.
Agree completely. Halo 2 had a terrible plotline and characters were all over the place. The graphics and story was completely cheesy. The gravemind in Halo 2 was by far the cheesiest antagonist in any halo game, while halo 3 fixed it.
Characters all over the place? Are you making some kind of bad joke? As far as characters go, Halo 2 is the most competent at crafting and exploring them.
Look at Thel. He's the unseen antagonist of Halo CE, our actions as the player in the first game are reflected immediately through his point of view from the get-go in Halo 2. We then follow him through a story of redemption and honour (being 'reborn' as the Arbiter), betrayal (the conflict with Sesa 'Refumee and the betrayal of the Prophets), loss (the murder of the High Council) and then he allies with humanity in a joint cause.
As Halo 2 progresses we see an internal change with Thel's character and motivation. After meeting with the Gravemind, the Arbiter's sense of purpose becomes one with John's - he's learned that the Great Journey is a lie after ardently asserting to John even while in the clutches of the Gravemind that it's real but as events unfold following the Great Schism we see how he places his faith in humanity and they work together to bring down a common enemy.
Initially he's fighting for the same reason every other Elite fights - honour, glory and to secure passage to the Great Journey. This was his life, and upon discovering that it was all a lie we see him go through a change of character. This is further reflected in Halo 3, at the start there's still feelings of animosity between John and Thel but by the end of the game when the Dawn is about to flee the crumbling Halo, the FIRST thing that John does upon reaching the Dawn is to check that Thel is okay. This kind of subtle silent 'relationship' speaks volumes in terms of the ways the character is developed, in this case dialogue and display of emotions aren't a primary objective here - it's conveyed beautifully through the simplest of ways.
There's subtle themes of foreshadowing through his development which is later reflected on the story, he asserts at the start of Halo 2 that he is eager to continue his campaign against them. However, it's significant to note that as Thel you don't kill a single human in the game, only Heretics and Flood. The former is important because it conveys the sense that the Covenant has all these internal divisions and that the Elites are living a lie, in contrast to humanity which is portrayed as being united. These factors taken into consideration, one who pays attention can see what brings about his change of character from the Supreme Commander that burned Reach into cinders to a sympathetic figure who grows a bond with the human characters around him.
How exactly was Gravemind the "cheesiest antagonist in any Halo game"? His character is pretty well built up to during the game and Gravemind isn't truly 'evil' when we first meet him, from his perspective he's doing everyone a favour by assimilating them: "Arrogant creature! Your deaths will be instantaneous while we must suffer the progress of infinitude!" ~ Gravemind, Halo 2, High Charity
He's also willing to comprimise and work with his 'enemies' because they share a mutual goal, he considers the Flood to be a reprieve for his victims as it unites them as a 'perfect' form of life - free of civil conflict and chaos, the Flood is completely at one with itself. Exactly what part of all this makes the Gravemind a "cheesy villain"?
The story itself was infinitely more sophisticated than Halo CE and 3, in this game we were shown that the Covenant weren't just a random collection of aliens we had to shoot, there was an actual story and history to them. Halo 2 told a universe, anyone who fails to realise the impact it had on the Halo universe through its quality of story is a moron.
