I like these maps and I honestly don't get all the hate. Many people claim these two to be the worst Halo 3 maps. I would say the worst Halo 3 map is Blackout with Last Resort and High Ground being bad for slayer.

Snowbound has beam rifles FTW and as long as players are moving and flanking it's fine. It's only bad when you're going in against campers and your team refuses to help. There's also easy map flow. You only get stuck in the corners of the bases if you're a noob. I see bad kids have this happen all the time trying to run away tsk tsk.

Isolation is very open and has very easy map flow. Only problems I ever have on this map is the randomness of the ghost, but I always destroy it right at start so that's never an issue for me. I honestly like everything about this map. Enemies storming off spawns can be avoided if you just have decent awareness.

Both these maps have fairly even spawns and good map flow imo.

Blackout on the other hand. Well, there's the starting spawns. Then there's the god awful fusion coils. Then, there's the horrid lines of sight due to the random railings. Also, I never liked Halo 2 or the original map, but let's be honest. Lockout is 1000x better than Blackout. Blackout is by far the worst map in Halo 3 imo.

Other halo 3 maps I'm not a huge fan of are Last Resort and High Ground because they seem more specific to Objective and I don't like that they appear in Slayer gametypes.

Discuss.

I don't mind Snowbound. I like it. I hate Isolation though.

But it isn't necessarily because of gameplay. Rather, most of my hate comes from the atmosphere. The art makes that map feel oppressive and depressing. I don't enjoy playing with that feeling and as such I dislike the map.

pretty much what i was going to say, the environment on isolation turns me off from the map

I absolutely hate Isolation. There is nothing good about this map.

And I f.ucking LOVE Snowbound. I'ts the perfect map to camp in Team Doubles ;). Especially when you're playing tryhards.

Other maps I hate are Last Resort (slayer games), Epitaph and Foundry. Seriously, the spawns in Foundry are the worst...

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

I hate Snowbound (and variants) with a passion. I don't think I ever experience decent games on that map, and it always either turns into "who can scrap the most long range kills with the BR or Carbine" or a grenade fest bottom middle.

I also hate isolation, mostly because the map just isn't fun to play, because it always results in fighting occuring only top and bottom mid, and again, being a grenade fest.

I wish Blackout came up more often.

High Ground isn't the best map, but it always gives me interesting, often very close games.

Last Resort is a beautiful map. The fighting doesn't just centralise into one area, but moves around based on player movements. Like a good map.

Out of all the replies I clearly disagree with you most. What do you like about Blackout. You say you wish it came up, but didn't clarify why you liked it.

Personally, I have never had a good experience on the map. I am not a fan of Halo 2's maps, but like I said it plays worse than Lockout.

Let's talk blackout seeing how I can not begin to tell you how much I despise this map. It starts one team with immediate access to BR tower and height advantage.

Let's talk different strategies.

Let's say top spawn wants sniper. All they have to do is BR the fusion coil to get sniper top mid and then rush up to BR tower. The one and only defense that bottom spawn team has is to lift immediately. A fusion coil lies the second they walk out into the small square with terrible lines of sight. On top of that, there's clunky inclines just outside the lift that hinder strafing. Players on top spawn can have players BR from top BR tower, Library. If bottom team decides to go a different route, well then they just lost sniper.

Ok so the bottom team decided to storm bottom BR tower instead. Top spawn can have a guy waiting with sword for them to turn the corner. Top spawn has top control so they can camp and just nade the corners. The powerdrain is the only decent thing that bottom gets. Shotgun is useless given that on a bottom spawn you are likely losing and it isn't effective in open areas up top where your enemy is most likely camping.

Just to get to the enemy you either have to give up huge height advantage or go out in the open.

Ok bottom team goes and gets shotgun to fight the sword. Yeah, you just let the top team setup everything. Again, all they have to do is camp. That's all blackout comes down to.

Look at the lift area. Look at top mid. There's weird pillar things on the railing that are oddly shaped and create more randomness for BRing.

The main problem is the spawns. Bottom spawns and Library are the only things you will be lucky enough to get. If enemy players are snipe tower and BR tower you are likely to spawn library into a crossfire with a height disadvantage.

Honestly, I feel Blackout is the Swordbase of Halo 3. I don't see how the spawns could possibly be worse. Both initial and situational.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

I actually like both Isolation and Snowbound. Snowbound is frustrating to play, but was the site of some pretty hilarious moments. Blackout is pretty awesome too, but mostly because I liked Lockout. Really, the only maps I hate in H3 are Valhallla and Orbital.

EDIT: And High Ground.

I really don't like Valhalla for team slayer, I find it very unbalanced, the coastal spawn gets a concave pretty much trapping the waterfall spawn.

Guardian can be very unbalanced and slow as well sometimes, depends on who you're playing.

The best maps (IMO) are The Pit and Midship.

Edit: I don't dislike guardian once the match gets going, just the initial spawns seem a little unfair.

I completely forgot about Guardian. I loved it when I was at 35 or so. At 50 high, it's just boring, and if you spawn elbow the other team might as well say good game.

Pit and Midship are awesome!!

Symmetrical maps just seem to work better, which is why I don't particularly mind Snowbound or Isolation. Though not completely symmetrical, they are pretty balanced.

Aesthetically I think that Isolation could have been more appealing if either set on top of a big height, like epitaph, or given arena style textures like the pit/foundry.

I completely agree. Symmetrical maps probably work best simply because everything is so balanced. On maps with arguably advantageous spawns, it's often placing someone at an immediate disadvantage or advantage, which is why I hate FFA.
