Subject: How well do you think New Mombasa is doing?

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I know that the semi-official days of trying to clean up New Mombasa are over, but I'm still trying something. I have three consolidated posts, one each on

Weapons-
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=725535

Vehicles-
http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=725544

Single Player-

Do you think it's worth the time? Because now that I have them all written out, it doesn't take to much effort to maintain them, but if they get buried too quickly...
I would just like some of the good opinions that can be had from the good people of The Septagon.
Edit- I know that it's not nearly as bad as it was, or as we make it out to be. But I still think that it is the forum that could be most improved. Skip down to Maka's post if you want to see what it probably the best post in this thread.

Well, to the one person who voted, I mean by trying to consolidate threads. And I'm changing the name, no one it seems has even looked at this.

To me, New Mombasa isn't as bad as it was 3 - 4 weeks ago. I think doing absolutally nothing did the job.

I can think of far too many trolls, it'll do my heart well to see them off.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

New mombasa has greatly improved but with Halo 2's release coming up, it's condition will most likely get worse. So in Halo terms "The horror in NM, it's finished."
"I think it's just getting started."

The new mombasa has cleared up of late... but the Underground appears to getting hammered with useless and pointless posts... The problem is just floating around for the moment I believe.

Yeah, it's the underground that needs help now.

Shall there be a forum that does not need helping in this cruel world!

though NM is still really bad... and once halo2 comes out, us intelligent people will want to use it too... I am begining to think that all of us need to get away from B.net and initate trih xeem on all bungie forums lol

  • 09.26.2004 8:14 AM PDT

The Flood has certanly gotten alot better since it was first made, probably because you can actually keep track of the posts there. The next thing we should work on is (like others said) The Underground. Any massive attempts to do something with New Mambasa will be forgotten by the 9th, so try posting there a week or so after Halo 2.

NM will always have a bit of a kooky reputation, I think. Some who come in there are seasoned vets of Halo and Bungie.net, and there are others who have just joined and are still learning the ropes. NM will attract the most people, as almost everyone who hasn't been hiding under a rock knows about Halo 2.

I think the mods' new powers might be having an effect, as well. I just went in there, and it's been a long time since I saw the forum so devoid of locked threads. I guess getting a thread locked must be enough to scare the light spammers in light of the new mod powers, and as for the hardcore, well, the mods' ability to blacklist now means that they can expect to be sorted out within a few hours of popping up, thus meaning hopefully, there will be less spamathons than before...

Ok, ok, we don't need to do anything. How about this; do you think I am wasting my time in making and updating those three threads?

No I don't think you are... it's drawing attention to the problems and thus allowing the mods to know our fears about what is happening... whether we can actually do anything about it is subject to their will, as we saw with NMST, they are the ones we need to approach I guess...

New Mombasa gave me migranes and reminded me of why I hate the internet, so in short...round up the people and imprison them in a tropical island compound...or not, doesn't really matter.

TO me new mombasa is a diamond in the rough. Yet there is too much excitement, too much of the same posts. One person makes a statement in a post. AND another person contradicts that statement in a different post. (Kinda perpetuates the cycle) I also think people who have never been in the forum atmosphere just post something, doesnt matter what, but they do it for the sake of posting. To see there name on the board....

Before i joined b.net i read a lot of posts and didn't decide to join until i had somethin to say. I think once you get a Member name, their should be a grace period or somethin?

To all people who are "afraid" or "feel it's hopeless" to go there, I have a message

Suck it up. Please, come on. It's getting both out of hand, and silly how much some of you intensify an easily solvable situation, or "problem"

If you wanna talk Halo 2, go in there. What's to be afraid of? If you get annoyed by the repeating topics, why? If anything, it's an example of the rising attendance of new people stopping in to visit the site. This is a good thing; Bungie reaches it's consuming grip ever farther. Bungie.net's forums are set up in such a way that it's almost intimidating to search, manually, for an old topic

Adding more to that, it's important to remember that Bungie.net still doesn't have a search function, so it'd be wrong to blame people like this completely

And if there is any other problem - flaming, etc - there are two ways to counter this. One is to PM a mod if it gets bad, and two, argue back! Bungie encourages intelligent argument, so long as both sides don't cross any lines. Being a new member on any site lends an automatic feeling of being defensive, and so when you display that you yourself aren't flaming, but merely arguing safely, the feeling is contagious, and new members feel tested, and even welcomed

I agree with you mostly there. Usually when I post about how absolutely terrible New Mombasa has gotten, I'm kidding.
I still go there. Probably the biggest problem is how fast topic fly off the screen, which is simply a sign of it's popularity. And it is obviously the demi-official "new member" forum. Let's face it, most of these people are just joining now because of Halo 2.
So I retract my earlier statement. I started this thread in frustration, and I believe it shows.

Don't utter the forbidden acronym! Call it X. And yeah, I think that people both in and out of X overreacted. Mostly out, in my opinion, but I see why the mods were worried by X. We'd of had of have stayed true to a nearly god-like standard in order for people to not hate us, and we are just human. Hence, X is not allowed.
