Should halo reach be considered a side game in Halo like ODST, or is it part of the trilogy.

For Carnage Apply Within

They think that they have pacified Ireland. They think that they have purchased half of us and intimidated the other half. They think that they have foreseen everything, think that they have provided against everything; but the fools, the fools, the fools! — they have left us our Fenian dead, and while Ireland holds these graves, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace

I don't... I don't know what you're... What?

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I don't think so. I believe Reach is a Halo game in its' own right, partly because it actually is (ODST is an expansion for Halo 3) and partly because it has its' own story, independent from the time period of the other games, in that it does not take place concurrently with the Halo trilogy's storyline, but rather takes place immediately before it.

I'd like to say yes. But its not. Halo CE just threw you right into the middle of the war without explaining ANYTHING. So Reach was created to give more to the back story. Before you say just read the books, its not like everyone who plays Halo reads the books.

Unfortunately, it is now part of canon.

CEA using updated/fixed Reach models points to the continuity. :(

In the same sense you didn't follow master chief through his story and if it is a side game does that mean that the halo trilogy is about the halo universe, or master chief's adventures.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

Well, the manual for CE basically summed up TFOR in like 50 words so...

Is the fifth halo game part of the trilogy? Um...

It's neither a side game, or part of the trilogy. ODST didn't have a dedicated multiplayer or custom games. Reach did. It also wasn't 1, 2, or 3, so it's not part of the trilogy. It's a type of full game called a prequel.

Actually Halo: Reach only portrais Noble's team missions which are a very tiny dot in the whole Battle of Reach, The book The fall of Reach on the other side takes a more broad approach to the battle along with First Strike.

A game that's bigger and more ambitious than all its predecessors can't possible be considered a side game. Reach is the most expansive Halo game yet, so just call it a prequel.

By definition, Reach Cannot be in the trilogy. "A trilogy is a set of three works...". It is considered a prequel, not exactly a side story.
