Subject: Anyone catch that quote?

I'm a stubborn guy. I love to argue my opinion, but unlike others, I'll try to see your side of the problem. I'm a triathlete, with a very heavy empephis on the swimming bit. Also, don't hate on the ~Quinton~ at the end of my posts. Why are you still reading this? #creeper #hashtagcashmoney for hashtaging on Bungie.net

After the Microsofts press conference at E3, one of the people on GTTV said something along the lines of the follwing: "What producer or publisher would be crazy enough to release a new franchise at this point in time".

The reason this caught my question is because that is exactly what Bungie is doing. But why would someone say that? It doesn't seem as if the pre existing franchises in the gaming industry are impossible to beat.

Everyone has some type of qualm with the games that are out, so there is room for improvement.

Do you think Bungie is "crazy" for starting as a little fish again in an ocean filled with other bigger and "better" fish?

I feel as if this is in the wrong forum but it relates to Bungie in someway. Sorry if it is.

~Quinton~

Spread the love...

Bungie is awesome. Bungie doesn't go with the flow. Bungie is Bungie.

They asked that because in this economy, it's easier, safer and less risky to make a sequel instead of an entirely new IP. Ever wonder why we have a bunch of sequels, some of which are branded the same as existing IPs but pushed in a dramatically different direction (Bioshock, for example)?

Bungie's the only major player that's actually pushing the envelope, and everyone's eyes are on them.

No pressure!

sooo you saying Bungie is indie?

Fight your way out; only scrubs and mashers jump out of the corner

I don't think it's all that crazy for Bungie to be coming out with a new IP. With a fan base like this one, the risks are mitigated to a certain extent.

Between fans of Bungie and fans of Halo ( who will no doubt hear that 'bungie' place is out with a new game ) I'd imagine Destiny will have a large amount of traction from the very beginning.

Let's also not forget Bungie's flare for the dramatic; I'm sure there will be a lot of cool media coming out to help fan the flames well before the game is even in a public beta.

Why it's not crazy of Bungie at all to work on a new IP. In fact Bungie are the sane ones and those publishers/developers working on those rinse and repeat IPs are the crazy bastards.

BUNGiE is too goth in the game industry to conform to societal standards which dictate more sequels than more new stuff.

I subsume BUNGiE's standard as my own and therefore will not buy sequels, but new IPs only.

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

Bungie is like a spartan. They're outnumbered by the Covenant, AKA everyone else, but are soooo much better. The real question is if thy're good enough, despite being smaller again.

It's Bungie. I have no doubt whatever they bring out will be swept up by most of the gaming community.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Because they are a multi-million dollar company with awesome employees.
They are capable of making a new franchise.

Bungie already got beat to the post by breaking the trend of good game sequels. Doesn't anyone feel the need to mention Watch Dogs? New IP's are only risky for people who don't know how to make amazing games.

I don't think it is crazy for Bungie or any other company for that matter, to make a new franchise. Why stagnate? I'd rather make the next best thing. The think is if you have imagination, creativity, determination, and the means to get the job done, you ussually attain success. I think bungie has all of those qualities as a team, I have faith.

You have to admit that Bioshock Infinite looks cool.

The real problem is, there's no success with one-shots. Dishonored and Watch Dogs look awesome, but they're not gonna make much $$$ w/o sequels.

And that mentality is why most game companies are releasing sequels and not taking risks. Not completely the companys' faults but also the consumers.

Bungie works for the allmighty. They are favored. Bungie comes out with "NEW HAWTNESS" and continues dominately crawling towards infinity. This is the way of things, did you not understand?

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I was talking about this earlier on Xbox LIVE with some friends and I asked what popular game on Xbox right now is not a sequel? Everything in my collection right now is a sequel. One responded saying Borderlands, but Borderlands 2 is coming out very soon.

I am excited to see something new. We need something new whether we realize it or not.

It's true. Everything I say ends up becoming official statements.
Jot this down, Destiny will also have an excessive amount of McDonald's and overweight women saying they want to eat healthy, but never really taking the initiative to lose the weight. Oh, and you'll be going to prison in exactly 3 weeks. Don't ask why, just avoid bath salts.
See you starside!

Was someone talking about combing things like new console hardware and the "New Hawtness" again? Sigh. Keep fishin guys... ;)

Wow GX that's weird. Like this "planet" we created on the rings... They Honestly still believe they're on a marble and need spaceflight. They are an uppity bunch at times, but have the inspirations necessary in their "world" to train piolots who can not only Starburst, but build their own ships. It's funny, they know if they get out of hand "natural" disasters happen. They just gotta keep this one guy happy... They can't figure out it's obvious he has all the.......

Hmmmmmm......WHOA gotta go someone just orderded a new inclusion. See you after work. (Well soon as I finish)
Love you Bungie!
