Subject: Do Not Play Halo Reach at Friday 12ET PM

Name's John. I'm a 21-year-old firefighter/EMT from lolhio who doubles as a die-hard Halo fan. I've been enjoying the franchise since 2001. My favorite iteration of Halo would have to be Halo 2 simply because I never got to experience the joy of a full-on Halo: CE LAN.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Oh yeah, and boot Zome.

Why would I waste time watching people play Reach?

It's Halo 4, actually.

Oh, okay.

Why would I waste time watching people play Halo 4?

For the same reason I've seen you discussing Halo 4 on The Flood. It's new gameplay footage.

But hey, nobody can force you to watch. Although you and I both know you're going to. It's okay, I won't tell anyone. Your secret is safe with me.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

Here's some hard reasons to hate MLG...(for those of you having trouble coming up with your own)

They are responsible for matchmaking and the way it works
They are responsible for the invention of the quit ban
They are responsible for the current state of the weapon sandbox revolving around 1 utility weapon that dominates every range.

Their influence on gaming as a whole, has mostly done nothing but lower the bar. And make developers such a Bungie and 343 too afraid to keep pushing the boundaries and find cool new stuff to add into their games.

MLG is directly responsible for the recent Fad you all are witnessing in which games are getting bashed left and right for not trying hard enough to earn that $60.

Plenty of reasons to hate MLG right there.

How was MLG responsible for any of those things?

no anger, no name calling, dont de rail yourself from the question and i will do the same.

just tell me where you got the facts and evidence for those accusations.

and as for your edit

BUNGIE and 343 added new things to the installments for their games. MLG has currently dropped halo and they are only attached with the starcraft franchise.

It's called 2+2 = 4.
It's called looking beyond the little -blam!- and realizing every problem with Halo is because competitive trash are trying to force casuals to play "THEIR" game. And then slapping a quit ban in front of them when they speak out.

You don't hear casuals -blam!-ing about jetpacks, or sprint....do ya?

That's because casuals don't complain about anything.

  • 06.06.2012 11:52 AM PDT

MLG had nothing to do with any game's sandbox. That was Bungie derping.

Bungie trying to cater to MLG is what caused it.
Everything about Halo's multiplayer revolves around stat tracking.

And the only people who give a -blam!- about wanting a history of numbers to flash in front of other people are.....????

But if that was the case E0S wouldnt 343 and bungie add ranking systems? wouldnt they drop the AAs and bloom?

Once the competitive players found out about all the perks reach had most stopped playing, and the ones that continued finally got what they wanted with a TU after months of complaining, most casuals like the TU as well.

MLG dropped reach because it couldnt generate a big enough audience to make a profit, all MLG really is a business the people that play the playlist do not represent the company in anyway at all.

I found the perfect Analogy for what competitives and MLG are like.

They are the type of people who fought the idea that the world was round. Because they were already dead set on the idea that the world was flat. Because all their educations, maps, economies, routes, etc. All accounted for the world being flat. And if the world was round...they'd have to adapt, because the skill sets they had aquired are no longer relevant.

That is what I think of, when I think of Competitives and MLG.

And it's true... Just look at the way you people -blam!- about jetpacks. You -blam!- about it because your current skill set makes you have to adapt to it. Instead of just naturally dealing with it.

It perfectly ok to force most games to revolve around the DMR...because that's where your skills are at. But god forbid if you had to add jetpacks to the skill set. Because jetpacks interfere with your footracing skills.

Why? Well, MLG is going to be streaming live 5 full multiplayer games, 4v4 with commentating by Walshy and T2.

Wont they just put it up on a youtube channel? I work all day

  • 06.06.2012 12:07 PM PDT

That doesn't even make sense. If anything, a "competitive" person went against set principles in order to prove his point that the Earth WAS round.

Jetpacks are just improperly implemented in Reach. There's no changing them in Reach, so we are against them.

Then why is it so hard for "competitives" to accept jetpacks or armor lock as a utility peice of equipment in the same way you view the DMR as "Utility"?

You're views have pretty much forced everyone to play with that DMR almost 100% of the time.

But when you get stuck in a match in which you would have to be forced to use a jetpack 100% of the time.... it's unnacceptable? And the only reason it's unnacceptable to you. is because your skills revolve around a footrace that gives you an unfair advantage at some point...a crutch.

[Edited on 06.06.2012 12:10 PM PDT]

Because they aren't good implementations. It's like saying "Let's add a 2 ounce poison to 1 once water ratio for our drinking supplies" and saying we should adapt to that.

If it was a non-lethal amount and you could eventually build an immunity to the poison...

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.

We didn't do -blam!-. Bungie made the sandbox terrible since Reach's creation and made the implementation of the DMR god awful. the TU at least makes the utility weapon 9a starting weapon0 more functional and isolates the issues towards the general sandbox, which already had a fair share of issues to begin with. It's easier to isolate a lesser amount of really faulty equipment than it is to have a larger amount of faulty equipment.

when you talk about the world being flat in your first post isnt that what you're doing now E0S?
you have your mind dead set that competitive players and MLG are the scum of the earth when it isnt the case.

We can deal with it, and we have, when most competitive players use jetpacks they use it to do stuff you wouldnt believe.

No games "revolve" around the DMR its been awhile since ive played but dont you have an AR as a secondary? use it if you want variety.

casuals dont care if they win or lose, right? if you did you wouldnt be a casual.

You do realize that because you removed bloom from the DMR you in a sense removed the checks and balances from that weapon.

It's easier to just make the game revolve around my preferred weapon.....

That's what you meant to say.

bBt it's not just the DMR. The Rockets, Sword, Shotgun, Grenade launcher, Sniper rifle and (for BTB) the Laser are all still important and all warrant map control and movement to grab them. The Plasma Pistol, Magnum, Needle Rifle, Plasma Launcher, and Concussion Rifle still warrant basic pickups.

The only weapons that truly suffer are the AR, Spiker, Plasma Rifle, and Plasma Repeater, and they've been underpowered since day one. I.e. You still don't have an argument.

And guess what. The DMR can dominate the rocket, sword, shotgun, grenade launcer, AND the sniper rifle.

Your utility weapon crosses too many boundaries.
