Madara, Tobi....call me whatever you want. I'M NO ONE. I DON'T WANT TO BE ANYONE. ALL I CARE ABOUT IS COMPLETING THE MOON'S EYE PLAN."
I posted this as well on 343i page, but for those who don't like it there here you go:
Perhaps these new enemies are connected with the species from the terminals, bear with me.
These Knights. . . at first i was giddy with excitement upon seeing the knights teleport and speed-blitz (after image), but i was then confused when i learned their names : promethean knights.
All 3 enemies have the title promethean before their names, and cortana thinks they are synthetic and forerunner. This to me was quite a let down as i was hoping we would be fighting a new species, not just some new forerunner super-sentinels again. Preferably the species from terminals 5&6. Now under the knight's description, they are identified as not forerunner but synthetic warriors about 10 feet tall and weighing 934 lbs. They are massive, but nowhere near as massive as real prometheans, let alone the 13' builders (who were smaller than prometheans). They are not exactly as unstoppable as you'd expect a forerunner warrior to be: they were taken down by a BR and an AR from us lowly humans. So are these pseudo-prometheans really forerunner creations? Or are they something else?
I say this because of the recent buzz generated from the concept art here(go down to artworks):http://press.xbox360.com/products/823p51/halo-4-e3-2012-infin ity-trailer-pegi
where the sphere we saw in the trailer is revealed to be in fact a cryptum. Now as some of you already know, the chief and cortana had already met with the sphere before, and even know enough about the cryptum to call it a "he" (a recent interview states that the mission takes place 1/3 through the game: a real bummer, as that means we will be fighting the covenant for alot longer than i thought). The crytum scans MC and ignores him, then zooms off with a sort of never-before seen advanced propulsion: as if it had no inertia.
This crytpum: housing a probable promethean (most likely the didact) deemed MC to be harmless, and it had already met him before. So why would it choose to ignore MC rather than squash him right there? This also goes for the new enemies, the cryptum ignores MC for the 2nd time (at least), yet the new enemies attack him on sight. And these new enemies only showed themselves when the infinity entered requiem, not along with the cryptum from before. Which suggests that they may not be entirely affiliated with the promethean inside the cryptum.
I've already brought up the detail of the knights little arms: the regular arms seem to have hard-light joints, making them appear as though they are floating limbs. The little arms however are completely different and seem to be connected to their bodies, they are sorry excuses for arms (sort of like a T-rex). What would the purpose of having those little arms be? other than getting in the way. Perhaps it is because those are the knights real biological arms, and that somewhere in their, there is an organic being.
others have already brought up the fact that the knights are the only ones who disintegrate/vaporize upon dying: even when they were killed by non-forerunner weapons. Why would they disentegrate? Some have stated it was to protect their hidden organic parts: perhaps they are not entirely synthetic( which is what im hoping).
Finally this brings me to the species from terminal 5&6, now unless 343i is trolling us real hard, they wouldn't dedicate nearly 2 terminals to a species that wouldn't have a part in the new trilogy. They presented the ship with such ominous atmosphere and music, 343i made us wonder how such a species could have been so advanced 40,000 years ago, while we the reclaimers were still working stone tools. 343i even showed us a brand new aesthetic design in their ship, with prongs towards the tail as well as green-lighting, teasing at the arrival of an entirely new culture. 343i teased us with the notion that the atmosphere from the ship was almost identical to that of the halo rings, causing GS to wonder if they were originally cataloged there. The ship was identified as short range, despite it's great size, implying that there were more nearby: which made us wonder why that ship crashed in the first place (perhaps a war was going on centered around the halo ring, quite interesting).
So many questions were left un-answered about the species, it would be the biggest waste of a golden opportunity from 343i to throw that species away, rather then introduce them into the games. Perhaps this species is in some way connected to the knights in halo 4. perhaps these knights aren't entirely synthetic, and have augmented themselves long ago: they cast away the majority of their old frail organic body parts long ago, to take on new deadly cybernetic bodies. Either that, or this species is yet to be introduced into the games later on. Or, 343i is trolling me.
