*Scratches head* So I've been... well not on here. For I guess a couple years.

Anyway.

I was just wondering what you guys are hoping Halo 4 will be more like. I loved Halo 1, 2 and 3, but absolutely downright hated Reach so much I wish I had never bought it.

And before people start saying things like I "wasn't willing to adapt" and whatever; let me repeat myself. I was able to transition between three different halo games and love them all. I reached a level 50 in Halo 2 and a level 45 in Halo 3. So I am a PRETTY BIG Halo fan. And yet for a plethora of reasons I had an IMMENSE disdain for Reach.

I personally hope that Halo 4 will feel most like Halo 3. It was the most competitive and most versatile game to ever hit the Xbox 360. If it is a lot like Reach, I probably will not buy the game. This makes the kid inside me kind of sad, but I know if I did, I'd just be buying it because of the name, and the (now adult) version of me knows that it's idiotic.

Edit: Please do not turn this into a flaming thread. We all started playing halo at different times and have different tastes.
For those saying "rank is not important blarg", my reasoning for adding in those numbers was simply to show my love for the game and express just how much time I had spent on it. It was to prevent unnecessary comments involving my opinion somehow not being a valid one. I enjoy campaign as well, but basically after beating each one on legendary, I spent most of my time in matchmaking. To address ranks while they are being discussed, I personally liked the 1-50 levels and experience point system. It was much easier to quickly guage how good a player was by tapping A on their name. I would compare experience points to their level. I often found players with very high experience points to be very good at the game in general. Players with high ranks but low experience were usually either good players that had just started a new account (and thus were correctly ranked based on skill) or were players that had specific strengths in playlists such as snipers.

Oh and I might as well put this in the OP. I did not include ODST for blatently obvious reasons. It is a campaign expansion of Halo 3 and thus has the exact same feel, engine, graphics whateveryouwanttocallit etc. I did not include the remake version of CE for the same reason. It uses the Reach engine.

There is a thin line between insanity and genius, i would put myself right in the middle and i enjoy every second of it.

Reach.

The multiplayer game modes, maps, and weapons were amazing. I dont understand the hate, AT ALL. It's an AMAZING game and I would like the campaign to have a Halo 3 type feel... But, I want the feeling behind Reach... That feeling to me was a feeling of fresh and new... Sorry to all you Halo 3 fanboys, but I enjoyed Reach campaign more actually... (Halo 3 was outstanding though, great dramatic set-ups... really enjoyed it)

Why? Because simply the sad, lost story of NOBLE team... Halo reach is my second favorite halo... whats my favorite? Halo 3... Now, why would I say that? Eh... I have better memories attached to it... The quest for recon... The legendary co-op... ahhh, those were the days... BUT, I want a REACH feel and 343 is definately impressing me beyond what I thought was possible... I cant wait for the return of the chief... and the gameplay? Also outstanding... Still get chills everytime I think of: "I've long dreamt of this day, Reclaimer..."

I want the campaign the give me the feeling that Halo 2's campaign gave me. I want to replay the campaign 8 years from now and not get tired of it.

As long as there's a warthog ending I'll be happy.

MC Confusing back in this b--ch with a parking sandwich and a chicken ticket....

Halo 2. For me personally, I had the most fun with Halo 2. The campaign was more linear than Halo 1, and that was a little disappointing, but for some reason I enjoyed it more. Maybe because of the awesome story. I'd also like to see another Halo game as difficult as Halo 2 on Legendary.

The same goes for the multiplayer. Maybe I'm alone here, but I was a little disappointed when 343 said "no 1-50 system". That's not a necessity, but I would like a proper ranking system. Even Halo 2/Halo 3's ranking system had many flaws.

If it's like Halo 2 or Halo 3, I'll be happy. I don't want a carbon copy, because I don't think change is a bad thing. I just feel Reach was a complete failure when it comes to multiplayer, and I hope 343 doesn't take TOO much from it.

What I hope it plays most like?
I hope its a separate entity from any other Halo while remaining true to the series. Much like every game has done. Adding new features, weapons, gameplay, etc. While still having the core gameplay remaining the same.

That being said, after watching the MLG games, it looks like a Halo 3 and Reach mesh.

Citizens of Me! The cruelty of the old Pharaoh is a thing of the past. Let a whole new wave of cruelty wash over this lazy land.

Hear the word of Pharaoh. Build unto me a statue of ridiculous proportion. One billion cubits in height......that I might be remembered for all eternity!

And be quick about it!

Halo 3, easily. Halo 3 was the best Halo in terms of multiplayer aspects.

Most like Halo 1 in terms of level design.

Also no one cares what levels you reached, and that doesn't make you a big Halo fan. So far I have enjoyed all the Halo games including Reach, and probably least of all Halo 2 (mostly due to its linear Campaign and the fact that the jump from Halo 1 graphics to Halo 2 were really not that big for three years).

EDIT: Also including Halo 3:ODST, which you clearly didn't think was important enough for your poll.

Many gave their lives so that we could live on. I intend to honor them by remembering them. Remember Cyborg. Remember John. Remember Noble.

Halo: CE is deeply in my heart. It is only a very wishful thinking to hope Halo 4 would ever be like Halo: CE. Now my dream seems like it's so distant, so far away...

Combat Evolved all the way. Halo 3 was the most pathetic excuse for a video game I have ever witnessed and will ever witness. Worst storyline, worst character development, worst musical score. The Arbiter got sidelined in preference for making Master Chief the end all be all dominant character overshadowing everyone and everything else. The storyline was centered on him and only him and did not address the status of the galaxy as a whole. The sangheili were left in the dark, Arbiter's story was left unfinished (as was Master Chief's until now), and everything just sort of 'fell flat', and went stale very quickly. The levels had like zero replayability (the only game in the Halo series to have successfully nailed this as good as CE is, dare I say, Reach, with the ability to customize and create your own character.) The only thing I liked remotely was the gameplay, so I'll say gameplay-wise, Halo 3. Everythingelse-wise, Combat Evolved.

I know how you feel my man, but unfortunately we live in a socialist dictatorship where the 51% dominate the 49%. Never will we be able to live in a world where the 1% get their own little piece of the pie, and everyone of the 100% live happily ever after.

But for now, we'll have to settle with Halo 3.5 because that is what the fanboys (the drones) want.

I'm just glad that he still existed. Look at the Zealots. There are none. That's a greater atrocity.

Delusions and Grandeur.

I want Halo 4 to be Halo 4.

  • 06.10.2012 3:57 PM PDT

Well, seeing as Halo 4 has built in sprint on everybody, you are going to see maps designed for that. It also has armor abilities and loadouts, from Reach.

Personally, I don't see what MP ranking has to do with how much a fan you are. I'm a big halo fan, and I didn't touch halo 2 on live and never got high in Halo 3.

Just from hearing how the gameplay is supposed to work, Halo 4 sounds like it's going even farther from the "Halo gameplay" of the trilogy then Reach did.

Halo 2 hands down. That game had many flaws that made it the best game by far to play. BXR and double shots made the game by far the best in my opinion. Also the bubble shields, power ups, and vehicles made Halo 3 hard for me to enjoy.

I find it amusing everybody loves Halo 2 MP, despite videos out there proving how much aim assist there is (fire rocket with reticule to the right of persons head, rocket impacts the guy's face dead on)

Just as long as the maps aren't built for jetpacks. 10 second countdowns are evil, just like pushed-in invisible barriers.

Not me. I never played it.

H2 cmp on the other hand is something I've enjoyed. Of course, the lunge is too strong and the autoaim for weapons like the fuel rod gun is annoying. Trying to assassinate berserking Brutes is agonizing when you miss that lunge (how can I miss the lunge given it's huge distance?). And I'm troubled by the fact that H2 can't support many AI, evidenced by the smaller draw distance and the frequent removals of AI from the level. And that there are aren't many battles that can be extended in numbers. Nonetheless, it's the huge exploration potential that counts (and skulls. H2 was when skulls were fun).
