I'd die to become immortal,
That's why I play Halo Reach
Now, many people already think that Gravemind was speaking through Cortana in the Halo 3 trailer. What if that's not the only place he used her to communicate.
I am referring to the Cortana letters.
In the first (and probably most major) Cortana letter, she finishes by saying "Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong: THIS is the way the world ends."
Now, on this forum, when people analyze this bit of text, they think; "oh, this is the way the world ends, this obviously means..." and they focus on that last line. I, however, would like to draw your attention to where she says "Oh, and your poet Elliot had it all wrong".
Now, you're probably asking "WTF? why does he want me to look at that?"
Well i'll tell u why. Cortana is a man-made construct. She was created from a blueprint of Halsey's brain. She has a human mind. Why, then, would she say "your poet Elliot had it all wrong"? Your poet? Why refer to Elliot as "Your poet"? The answer: it's Gravemind talking using Cortana as a 'guise' of sorts.
I also have another piece of evidence. At the end of that letter, it says "From a friend of a friend". This can be construed in two ways.
1. friend of a friend, as in Gravemind a "friend" of Cortana, basically using her as a host.
2. friend of a friend, as in referring to the Master Chief, and since when these letters were recieved, Halo had not yet been released, this may have been a clue to people as to who Bungie's next hero was.
Here is the entire first Cortana letter, just if you'd like to collect any more evidence from it.
I have walked the edge of the Abyss.
I have governed the unwilling.
I have witnessed countless empires break before me.
I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear.
[I was there with the Angel at the tomb]
I have seen your future.
And I have learned.
There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.
I HAVE WON.
Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.
a friend of a friend
As well as this theory, i'd also like to ask something else.
Could Gravemind possibly be a Covenant AI?
It is possible, but since i don't have the books available to me at the moment, i'd like other people to comment and provide evidence.
