Well, since seemingly everyone has posted their own theory on the events of Halo:CE through 3 I figured I'd give it a shot myself, however most of this is just connections that seem to make sense in light of game events.

1. Humanity is/is related to the forerunners, the Prophets recognized this somehow and thats why they started this Holy war, they're afraid that Humanity will return to the glory of the forerunners and take control of the Covenant Empire from them. However they hide this knowledge from the rest of the Covenant, they fear that they will not fight and instead rebel if they know the connection between Humanity and the Forerunners.

2. They believe that they can somehow wipe out humanity using the Halos, the Prophets actually know what the Halos truley are, or at least that they are weapons. However, again, they hide the truth from the rest of the Covenant so as not to lose their stature. But give them a religous significance to give the troops a reason to protect them.

3. After the Heresy that the Arbiter puts down the Prophets realize that the Elites are close to realizing the truth about everything, and attempt to put them in their place by knocking them down a rank in the caste system, and replacing them with Brutes.

4. The Elites rebel and Civil war breaks out, it seems that the grunts and Hunters side with the Elites, and the Brutes, Jackels, and Drones stick with the Prophets.

5. In Halo 3 this conflict is either resolved, the Elites and such start their own faction and the 'Civil' war is still going on at the same time as the Earth conflict, OR and in my opinion least likely, except for a possible select few. The Elites side with Humanity.

Thats pretty much it, feel free to compliment, correct, and/or flame.

I agree with it. The Prophets more or less ordered the Brutes on a genocidal campaign against the Elites. It seems to me, that while you're looking for the Marines on High Charity, the Brutes have already begun assassinating senior Elite generals.

Yeah, I realize that, sorry if it's a bit repetitive. However I've had this EXACT theory since I finished Halo 2, on November 11 or so.

From what i see, it looks like basic information anyone can derive if they have finished halo 2

Yeah, pretty much, it just seems more straightforward (to me anyway) than a lot of other rollercoaster theories I've read. whatever

Can someone explain the Great Journey to me a bit more though. I never really understood it.

And, where in Halo 2 do you learn what the Great Journey is?

Almost in every "rollercoasters theory" does humanity have something to do with the Forerunners, the Prophets don't believe in the Great Journey (even though Regret did a nice job acting, not giving up even after his death.) And everything that occurs in Halo 2 is actually happening so I really can't say that it is more sraightforward.

Alright, so its humans & elites vs brutes / Truth vs the flood... a triangular world of war. I'm defiently willing to beat gravmind highjacks high charity and rides it to Earth for one hell of a massive battle.

The prophets are suppose to represent a religious monarchy, a bunch of oligarchs who are not highly educated and believe in devine rule (that is, the forerunners told them they should be rulers. They inherited all of the forerunner technology, so they are very inganative and they're using it to find the great journey. I think they must really believe in it

Also, it looks to me like that masterchief is looking at a massive wormhole at the end of the halo 3 trailer. Perhaps the forerunners deciced that rather then destroy all of the flood and live in the universe, they could escape by transporting themselves across space ( a slip space with that massive diameter would certianly send them halfway across the universe). This trip gives meaning to the term "great journey" Maybe we'll even get to seem them on the otherside. So in this case there really is a great journey.

Anyways, my only real question is, did the forerunners activate the halos or not on there way out of the universe. I would say they did in the big bang sense, but then why would earth exist... it seems more likely that they didnt activate halo since there are still flood left on the rings and the robot ball from the first one is obsesssed with activating halo.
