How would you know who you're quoting or who you're having a discussion with?
That's the point: you wouldn't know who your quoting or having a discussion with. You would be quoting the post, not the user, so all that matters is what the post says. Also, you would be having a discussion with someone who you may or not know. So it's like the default of Forums. Only posts, no other distractions.

Also, keep in mind this could be toggled off and on. And I'm not even saying this should be implemented, it's just a thought.
How many people are actually distracted by usernames? I can see where you're coming from with titles, but usernames?
I know I am sometimes distracted by usernames.

Just think about it though: Wouldn't it be awesome to be having a deep conversation with someone, then you toggle it on and see it's a Bungie Employee or someone you rarely talk to? But I do understand what you mean; most people aren't affected by usernames.

I would rarely post if that was the case.

Why? I'm curious.

That's terrible. The point of a forum is to discuss things with people. Discussing things with people without an identity who are, essentially, imaginary with respects to your perception of identity, is what crazy people do.

Lots of boards do it, so a user can evaluate a post based on what is said rather than who is saying it.

That being said, I feel such a feature doesn't belong here. Not much a community if no-one has a name.

We're meant to be coming together as a community, getting to know each other, making friends. This would be impossibly hard when no one has an identity.

Just imagine if you went to school and no one had an identity. You would make no friends, and it would be so dull. Sure, it's not the exact same, and maybe I didn't give the best example, but do you at least get what I mean, comrade?

Very nice comparison, I see what you mean now.

That's actually more what I meant. This forum is more of a community than something used to discuss a topic. Anyone who feels the need to toggle this off is probably not somebody that really "gets" what BNet is about.

This idea seems totally random and unnecessary IMO.

Assguards are only important to people who run away from danger. Personally, I like to throw myself into danger facefirst, in a beautiful swan dive.

And all those boards are filled with crazy people talking to themselves.

I agree with mostly everyone the fact it would remove the sense of community here. Also the whole 'can't stalk Ben' part.

I haven't realised it until now, but my signature has a much deeper meaning than I thought. But it perfectly sums up how I feel towards this. I want to leave a mark on the community... I don't want to just make a few comments and then leave.

  • 06.07.2012 5:18 PM PDT

I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.

I think a good idea would be to sign your signature after your signature... and add "dictated but not read".

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

I actually like being able to see titles, prefixes, and names.

I normally hang out in the Flood, which isn't the cleanest place in the world. When I see a new account making a totally outrageous claim, there's a 99% chance he's trolling and not worth a reply.

But, if I see a blue or grey bar make a post, I'll subconsciously pay more attention to it; Having a title or prefix implies that you haven't been banned or warned, meaning that your posts are generally legitimate and not flame-bait. The title and prefix acts as a form of legitimacy.

That's just in the Flood, though; I know the community forum doesn't quite have the, erm, lower standards that the Flood has, so perhaps worrying about trolling or flamebait isn't a problem here in the community forum.

I think OP is on to something. Maybe, in addition to his idea it completely changes our posts order on the page to confuse people even more. SOLID!

Dear Halcylon,

I'm glad that you're in on the whole sarcastic idea suggestion plan. Good to have you be apart of it.

Reported for trolling.

OT: I think I see why you think it would be a good idea, but it really isn't. Humans will always find a way to be biased.

I can kind of see what you're getting at, but it just wouldn't work. Conversation between more than 2 people would be almost unintelligible. It would be like watching a video meeting where the screen was blacked out, and everyone wore identical masks/voice changers.

Plus there's the potential for mischief; people could pose as others and say nasty things.
