I agree that this idea is overboard but it still would be cool, atleast in my opinion
I reckon a mode kind of like skirmish on command and conquer generals (only in FPS) where you choose any level (except the ones you havn't played yet on Campagn) and choose your dropship LZ and start, you can call for reinforcements and gain battle credits and promotions from kills for more or new units or vehicles to be dropped in. You can occupy buildings that can be destroyed and call down superweapons, these can range from bombings to drop insertions or deployancy of cannons (like the ones on the beach of outskirts that look like the one in the Halo2 demo and a human equivalent). All the commands can be done using the directional pad that is usualy never used or if you do not want to assume role of commander you just select it in the main menu of skirmish and you can get the computer to call down the orders. This would be pretty fun and you could customise your units the same way you customise yourself in multiplayer, but with some changes, for instance you make your standard units say blue ODST and your commanders standard Seargents with the green eye thing from Halo1, or you can have your primary units white grunts with Halo1 style armour and you secondary units jackals with halo2 style armour, you could also set the weapons for those units and when playing skirmish you would use teh directional pad to select unit deploy and select primary unit, secondry unit, tertilary unit ect. and drop them into the field.
