I loved Halo:Combat Evolved. Partly because I went from playing Sonic on Megadrive to the Master Chief on the black box. I loved it because it felt as if you were (and ofcourse you were) discovering an horrific secret. Halo 2 had no mystery allure partly because the secrets of the Flood and the Forerunners has been left for Halo 3 but also because we were playing the game through the Covenants eyes most of the time. I want to feel like the last soldier in the universe uncovering epic secrets in Halo 3 not concearning myself with how good the Ghosts, Phantoms look.

What did you think happend when you saw gravemind at the end of regret?

Mystery right there.

in halo 2 you do spend more time as the master chief so its not through the covenants eyes

out of the 14 playable levels 6 of them are as the covenant

Personally I think it was 50-50. Halo CE was a little like "Whoa, we nearlly killed the galaxy!"
Then Halo 2 was more "There are six more of them?!? Lets get to work." But thats the hardest part of every trilogy...the middle. Continuing the story with a part that has no beginning and no end is challenging. Like Star Wars, The Matrix, Lorf of the Rings (Ive only seen the matrix)

But Im sure people will agree with me.

You're right there. Halo 1 was the GREATEST game i had ever played because it was so new, and graphics were so good and i'd never seen anything like it before. Halo 2, however, just seemed like a slightly upgraded version of Halo 1. A few new guns and abilities but nothing like the ' wow ' factor Halo 1 had. Sadly, I dont think we're going to achieve this same impact in Halo 3 either. It will be a great game, i know that, but we'll be expecting it to be good which will counteract that a bit. To me, i was totally unprepared for the awesomeness that was Halo: Combat Evolved and that made it awesome.

Inviso's right, the graphical power of the game was damn awesome. I remember when me and my brother first played it, we were both speechless, and just played it. Then we played it some more. And even going back to it now, it still seems awesome, if just for nostalgia. But halo 2 didn't stand a chance of living up to halo 1, because of the improvement halo was over other games at that time. However, we have a shining light in the way of the 360 to change that. I think Bungie just might be able to pull it off - but they'll have to be bloody good to do it.

personally i think the campaign on halo: CE is much more fun and infinitely more playable than halo 2. i think the combat is more fun in halo ce because you have the health system and don't get killed so quickly, i think the level design is better, and in co op you have the player respawn on every difficulty - unlike halo2's co op where if one person dies you both restart from the last save - that sucked.

halo2's multiplayer is amazing, but i believe halo: ce's campaign wins hands down, i still play levels like 'the silent cartographer' today.

if they put the playability, replayability and fun factor from halo: ce back into halo 3's campaign - it'll be a winner for me.

Uhh in retrospect, perhaps. But there was no better console graphics at the time. They were better than acceptable. Nobody spent ages just wandering around levels (like Halo) looking at the grass, the sunlight effects, the backgrounds, for graphics that were just 'acceptable'. And a lot of people did that.
