If you're listening in dolby digital with the centre volume turned up you can clearly hear her painfully screaming "No" at the begining of her first transmission. And as others say the gravemind is talking as she talks.

Why do you guys think that is?

(i know other threads have talked cortana but i cant find them)

Curent Games: Gears of War 2, Dead Space, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, The World Ends With You

XBL: KNIGHTOFDRAGONS

We aren't sure that's Cortana.

I can hear the No too. I think it is now abundantly clear that Cortana's plans for Delta Halo do not go according to plan.

All of cortana's talking has the gravemind talking too except for the begging where she screams no.

Maybe the gravemind is sending the transmitions through cortana using her voice.

Cortana can't resist and its hurting her in some way perhaps?

I never heard it as a "no", but I heard the grunt/scream the first time I listened to it on my 360 with 5.1, as opposed to just here on the computer.

My thought was that it was Gravemind forcing himself on Cortana, and that was her losing the fight. Then it goes in to the beginning of the first line. The "I" takes a while to get through, like Gravemind is still trying to figure out how to transmit through her. You can even see "pieces" of him; tendril like blue masses while Cortana's face is coalescing. It may even be his control, or lack there of, that causes what everyone is seeing in the random images during the transmission. By the end of the transmission, he has it figured out, and it comes through clearly as Cortana.

"I have defied gods and demons." Gravemind is one old cat that survived the Forerunners and the humans.

The Gravemind knows humans before then?

Perhaps Reclaimers and flood have met before (i don't belive Reclaimers are Forerunner)

Why would 343GS know what we are, but not Gravemind? It makes perfect sense to me, even if we aren't the Forerunners.

True but what i mean (assuming he is talking through cortana) "I know you, your past, your future."

What do you suppose he means by that. Does he know the past to the extent of Cortanas knowlage or does he know them from before then. And more importantly what does he know about the future?

If it is Gravemind then the "I have defied gods and demons" makes perfect sense, he has rejected both heaven and hell and evaded Death itself. Now the "I am your Shield I am your sword" line is more complicated, I can't picture Cortana saying that and Gravemind? Maybe he was holding a speech among the Flood OR *the plot twists* he is holding a speech to the Elites, Grunts and Hunters who have lost their old religion and when meeting this immortal entity have started worshipping him.

What if that isn't Cortana at all?!?! It could be ALL graveminds words through her.

Imagine Grave saying this.

"I defied gods and demons"

So maybe Gravemind is telling you how the world ends.

Well cortana is the name of a sword from the camlot stories. So maybe thats something to do with the sword?

It's possible that he has knowledge from the installations and the Forerunners from 2401PT or some other means. He may know about the humans from Cortana. We can only speculate about that at the moment. What he knows about the future may just be him being prophetic about knowing how the past was, and how history always repeats and such.

"I have defied Gods and Demons."
I personally think this means that gravemind has defied the forunners, and has also defied the floods hunger.

hmm maybe but i don't see hunger and deamon matching...

Has anyone seen that concept picture of cortana screaming? It's quite freaky. It shows she's in more trouble than the trailer shows

One thing is sure, we dont yet know the full extent of Graveminds capabilities. Sure he was able to teleport the MC and the Arbiter to do his bidding. But was this through his natural abilities or through some form of technology that we are not aware of. It's commonly thought that Gravemind is using Cortana to see out his own plans, if so then he does have limits.

Gravemind's main objective in Halo 2 was to prevent the rings being activated, but he may have other things in mind now, such as Earth.

But I suppose we will have to wait for H3 to find out.

When have the Flood ever been described as demons, though?

If the biblical relationship is to hold, there can be no "naming" the Flood. It is supposed to be a cleansing, all consuming mass that takes out everything that isn't on (in) the Ark.

Keep in mind this is all just conjecture on my part.

His purpose should be to further the Flood. This means stopping the Halos from firing, and taking out the Ark.

Maybe he thinks that he is going to destroy the Ark, thereby ending the "world" since there will be no refuge from the Flood.

maybe when the forunner created the flood, and lost control of them, they referred to them as demons...just a guess

The Forerunners have always called them the Flood. That's where 343GS got the name from in the first place. Why didn't he call them demons?

Gravemind probably didn't mean flood as deamons as he is one himself. I think he's hacked into the teleporter grid, i don't think he has any powers other than being the brain of the flood and his ability to assimilate all knowlege of any host the flood consume.

(wild guess) could it be that the gravemind was once a forerunner?

Also how did he get on high charity?

Whilst the grave mind held both the Arbitor and the Chief he said "Those that built this place knew what they wrought"

He says "those" as though they weren't related to either the Arbitor or the Chief

  • 06.09.2006 6:18 AM PDT

the flood have high charity and gravemind is there too, and i bet there are lots of ships still on high charity. i think gravemind will teleport high charity to earth and attack with his flood army......but who will he attack ????? i think he will get the prophet of truth

It's apparent that the Forerunners and the Flood didn't quite get along, and the rings were built to prevent the Flood from spreading. But in the end the Flood appear to have out lived their enemy, and now two more races are on the scene, both of which have very little understanding of forerunner technology, namely Humans and the Covenant, and yes I know the Covenant are a collective of several different races.

So the Flood have to stay alive by preventing the rings being activated and then feed on the remaining races. In the end I believe that the UNSC and the Covenant will join together to defeat the Flood and obviously Gravemind.

This could see Humanity join the Covenant like the other members, Grunts, Hunters etc...

Just a thought!
