Well. The sword part could refer to the fact that she did help the chief in his fights alot. The shield is that she defended him from harm. And perhaps her screaming "no" is because she's going to be turned against the Chief by the GM? I dunno...

I think that the gravemind may have figured out a way of moving high charity.

As we know when the arbiter and chief are talking to gravemind he tells them to search in different places. What he then does is teleport them using the halos teleportation grid.

If he could use most of the power from delta halo prehaps he could move high charity using the teleportation grid.

Just an idea.

It wouldn't work. The teleportation has to be done from GridPointA to GridPointB. He can't teleport High Charity. Maybe he could use power from the ring to charge up the Slipstream engines?

I'm pretty sure that High Charity can move through slip space...means, it can do a jump. It doesn't need a teleportatiopn grid. And a teleportation grid can't teleport off of its zone...that means if you're on Delta halo, you can't use that installation's grid to teleport to Earth.

(wild guess) could it be that the gravemind was once a forerunner?

That is VERY VERY possible. He could have been taken over by the Flood. And we must remember that the Forerunners were evolving for tens(or hundreds) of thousands of years (thank you Mr. Guilty Spark) , and may have looked much like a scaled-down version of Gravemind. They may have been past the Humanoid stage of evolution and much further down the road (such as the Martians in "War Of The Worlds"). When the Flood came along, somehow Gravemind could have become like our Captain Picard in Star Trek: TNG (Locutis of Borg) and was a half-point between the Forerunnners and the Flood. And somehow he was able to survive the first activation of the Halos.

Wasn't the Forerunner ship the power source for High Charity?

And it doesn't explain the size difference. The forerunners were about human sized as evidenced by the sizes of doorways on the rings. Or something like that.

Hmm...then what is high charity itself? I mean, who built it? Why? Did the Covenant build it? Like a super fortress thing? I mean, This brings us some interesting questions. Did The forerunner ship power high charity's slip space capability?
But how could they tap into a ship's slip space engines to tow that huge a structure with the ship itself? That's crazy high power. Think about it, that would be a bit too much, don't you think?

No... maybe... maybe High Charity was originally the Prophet home planet. It's all deformed looking from the war with the Elites? I don't know if the Forerunner ship housed the Slipspace enigines, it could've been an external power source.

I think that is the Gravemind is speaking through Cortana. I think that Cortana screams "No" at the beginning because she knows that the Gravemind is about to overpower her.

Edit: I also forgot to mention how the Gravemind was able to overpower and control 2401 Penitent Tangent towards the end of Halo 2 (Remember how 343 Guilty Spark was able to "teleport" with John from the mission "343 Guilty Spark" in Halo 1? The way they teleport in the "Inside Job" cutscene in Halo 2 was almost identical. This is because I believe that the Gravemind was using 2401 Penitent Tangent, a monitor very similar to 343 Guilty Spark, to teleport the Arbiter and John to seperate locations.)

Gravemind takes over people for fun. He practically has a collection. Prophet of Regret, Prophet of Mercy (probably), and Penitent Tangent. I bet the Covenant AI Cortana mentioned in H2 was either Gravemind himself or an AI he consumed. Also, Gravemind is a genious. I do believe he is a Forerunner. Not ONE Foreunner, but HUNDREDS. In the Art of Halo it mentions he is made of dead bodieS.

When you hear the trailer thinking its Gravemind, it sounds like he's an ally. "I am your shield, I am your sword" suggest he is guarding MC from the Covenant. In fact, the Covenant ships flying over the MC may well be Flood-controlled. No pilots were shown, perhaps, to keep the Flood/human alliance a secret. The "demons" he referred to were probably the Forerunners--they almost drove his kind extinct. "Gods" is a hard one, possibly referring to the Reclaimers for reclaiming the Flood from Halo. He defyed them by surviving Halo and then outgunned the Covenant Empire. You dont conquer a capital city in your free time!

All of cortana's talking has the gravemind talking too except for the begging where she screams no.

Maybe the gravemind is sending the transmitions through cortana using her voice.

Cortana can't resist and its hurting her in some way perhaps?

Actually, her "I know you, your past, etc" doesn't have Gravemind talking.

Gravemind has always been my fav character. He knows everything thats going on. He knows if humans are Forerunners, he knows how his race started....he's seen everything. Since the Monitors are insane and Cortana is his bi***, Gravemind is our only key to the past.

I think that the AI at the end of halo 2 was inside the ship and is a forerunner. I think the chief will make contact in halo 3
