pure speculation follows: Heres my theory about the ARK...it's not a weapon. Notice the swirling vortex in the sky in the trailer... what if thats thats slip space and not a storm. Think of the Ark as a massive slip space generator that the forerunners used to escape this portion of space. They went on a "great journey" using the ARK. This is the great journey that the cov have been looking for.

The forerunners built the halos with the idea of destroying that entire portion of space and the flood. They needed to get out of that portion of space before activating the halos. They hitched a ride and then the ARK structure on Earth, as the command center, activated the Halos after the forerunners left on the great journey (or did they... perhaps the halos never actually activated... it would explain 343 Guilty Sparks problem in the first HALO game) and thats why flood only remain on the Halos.

Also, as we see in the trailer, the Banshees ignore MC. As its already been discussed elsewhere, theres only two possible reasons to explain why this would happen. One is that they're allies (Elites, other spartans...who knows??). Otherwise, they're COV's on their way to something they find to be a lot more important then MC... perhaps to catch their ride through slipspace a.k.a. the great journey?

SO, let me know what you think... expand on these ideas, argue against them it... Finish the Fight

Sorry but i think the "greate journey" is metaphorical, its a symbol of the journey to transeincy, to heaven what ever the covenant think it is. What they call the Halos, Library etc is not what the forruners called it, the covenant mainly the prophets but a twist/ spin on everything.

actually, activating the halos is the "great journey", but good theory that could be the true great journey and truth doesnt want the covenant to know about it

the monitor cleary says that the halos can be fired via the ark, so it's more like a remote control for anhilating everything

covenant misunderstand what is halo purpose, they think that forerrunners are gods, etc, so they think if the halo is activated, it will send the to heaven
ironicaly, it will, but because they'll be all dead

The prophets think the great journey will send them to heaven based on artifacts that the forerunners left behind. I think the forerunners designed this slip splace to send them to a region of space away from the range of the halos and the flood (or perhaps threw time?..). The ARK would then remotely activate the halos after the forerunners had all gotten threw. THis theory could be the basis for the rumor of the great journey. It makes more sense then for the prophets mistaking cataslismic annihilation as a great journey to heaven.

Also, the forerunners might of talked of leaving the flood behind and the Cov. prophets might of mistaked humans as the flood. Could explain why they hate humans so much. They think we're trying to prevent them from going on there great journey.

THis theory explains why there appears to be a slipspace above the relic in the trailer, and why the covenant ships are all lined up ready to jump into it. If it wasn't for that whirl in the sky, then I'd probably be agreeing with you.

Wow. Impressive theory. I think you may be on to something. My only major disaggreement is with the Prophets not knowing what humans are. I feel that the Humans are immediate descendents of the Foreunners and the prophets know this. The prophets want to get rid of the humans because the existence of Forerunners would completely destroy any remaining chance they have of power.

It could defiently be like that. I was thinking about it as the prophets looking at forerunner relics that they couldn't accurately translate and mistaking things like the ARK as a great journey to heaven and humans as flood.

I also think the story has more of a Romulus and Remus, the founding brothers of rome factor to it, in that humans and covanent are both decended from the forerunners and are like brothers, struggling for power. They want humans out of the way so they can gain absolut power over the universe. The Cov recieved the forerunner tech, so there must be some linage there.

It makes alot of sense. However, it is the Larry Niven's Ringworld . The Puppeteers knew that the Galactic Core had already exploded and in 10,000 years it would hit our portion of the Galaxy, so they packed up and began moving 10,000 years in advance.

The Forerunners could have fired the Halos, and the escaped through the storm and into another Galaxy, etc. This could be what they meant by the 'Great Journey'. Not only that, the Forunners could have been planning to come back to our Galaxy, thousands of years later. Once they knew for sure that the Flood threat was gone. As for the monitors, the monitors could easily have been told that they were firing the rings and that they would all perish, or they could have been programmed to beleive it as so.

Also, another possibility is that, that storm is actually the Forerunners coming back from their other Galaxy. Whacky, yes, possible, yes.

All in all, it is a good theory you have with mutiple possibilites, like the one I posted above.

I'll defiently have to check that out. Its defiently a little out there, but I like it. what if in the Trailer we see the forerunners returning. Rather then the ARK creating the slipspace, the forerunners have activated it from the otherside and now the ARk is opening for their return.

I still have to wonder whats up with the bright gas coming out of the structure though. Is it depressuring, or perhaps its like the destructive wave the HALOS unleash? Any ideas anyone?

Bah..signatures are for the weak.........

Great Journey thing could be true but not what the Covenant think of it. The Covenant believe that the Great Journey will bring them on the path of a God so they will be the divine rulers but really..they just all die.

Evil Angels
CHROMEHOUNDS
1/6/2010- A day that will live on in infamy.

The Man in Black fled across the desert, the Gunslinger followed.

Good theory,if I may add to this,

If it is a way to get away from the Halos blast radius,it could be that as soon as the last ship has made it thru the " passage way" that it closes and it automaticly fires the Halos.

Theres my 2 cents.

exactly what I was thining dude. thanks for elaborating on it. I also added this to anothers guys thread, but it helps to expand on this one as well...

from my post on the thread "Subject: the possible story core for halo 3,its alittle disorganized so bear with me" created by M4W DOMn8r 2
***********************************************************
Well, just to expand on your theory... my theory is that the ARK is creating a giant slipspace, which is the whirling vortex in the sky in the halo 3 trailer This explains why nothings getting sucked in, or why theres no wind, like we'd expect from a storm(they're not under the eye of the storm). I believe the forerunners built it to be the vessel for the great journey... the great journey being the escape from this region of space before the Halos were activated (which we know from halo 1). I believe the ARK remotely activated the halos after the forerunners went through that slip space. Also, the halos kill all life, but they don't necessarily destory planets or other forerunner structures. This explains why theres only flood left on the halos, and why the ARK is still left, as well as all the forerunner technology the COV took.

***Most of the new stuff begins here***
This also explains why the spark from HALO 1(the floating robot, i forgot his name) knows that the halos have been activated once, but also why he hasn't seen any forerunners there, but wants the Halo to be activated again since there are still flood remaining.

The prophets either know the truth and are using it to kill humans, the descendents of the forerunners, so they can be all powerful in the universe or they just misinturpreted the forerunners great jpurney as ascension to heaven.

This also explains why guilty spark 343 from HALO 1(the floating robot, i forgot his name) knows that the halos have been activated once, but also why he hasn't seen any forerunners there, but wants the Halo to be activated again since there are still flood remaining.

Who Dares, Plays.

It's a good theory, but wrong from the evidence the game gives. The Great Journey is the destruction of all the Halo's which would, in theory and probably truth, obliterate everything in the entire Universe. Maybe it's a link, considering the digsite is for the Key, and the storm is directly over it. Possibly a defense mechanism made by the Forerunners?

The only problem is that you can't see slipsace. Slipspace is literally nothing. It has no color or shape it is between real space and something else. However, if you read the books, in the First Strike they found a crystal under CASTLE base that manipulates slipspace. If there is a crystal like that in the structure you claim to be the Ark, then your theory would make sense because that would be the space between "real" space and slipspace. What I am tring to say is that if there wwas a crystal like the one found under CASTLE base in that structure, then your theory can be true.

Twelve Large ²

An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.

I'm starting to think Ghost Virus may be right. Speculation has come across the idea that the structure could be a rather large mining tool, used for who knows what, but if you go back to Halo 2, during the final cutscene, you can see the Moon passing over the Earth with the Sun hitting the wrong side of the Moon. So we could very well target the Moon during the day based on the final cutscene in Halo 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Flood made it's way to Earth, and Gravemind was just using the Chief and Arbiter to "prolong" the Activation so he could reach Earth somehow. Maybe via the Ark. Since bungie would just make something up about how this all happens because it does, because someone has a shotgun, and because we don't. It would be just like Marathon. A game where everything is a lie.
