pure speculation follows: Heres my theory about the ARK...it's not a weapon. Notice the swirling vortex in the sky in the trailer... what if thats thats slip space and not a storm. Think of the Ark as a massive slip space generator that the forerunners used to escape this portion of space. They went on a "great journey" using the ARK. This is the great journey that the cov have been looking for.
The forerunners built the halos with the idea of destroying that entire portion of space and the flood. They needed to get out of that portion of space before activating the halos. They hitched a ride and then the ARK structure on Earth, as the command center, activated the Halos after the forerunners left on the great journey (or did they... perhaps the halos never actually activated... it would explain the blue eyed floating robots problem in the first HALO game) and thats why flood only remain on the Halos.
SO, let me know what you think... expand on these ideas, argue against them it... Finish the Fight
How should i start...
Ahem...
Long ago many alien races made a covenant... and united under one belief...of the forerunners...they worshipped the forerunners as there gods... meanwhile humans were fighting this newly formed covenant and were making spartans to fight them...blah blah...
the covs believed the forerunners would bring them great glory but little did they know when they found a halo it would actually destroy them...blah blah...in the end of halo2 the Monitor says the ark is the key to all the halos ahem meaning the great journey that these covenant are on...therefore...IT IS THE GOD DAMN KEY TO THERE GREATJOURNEY...wow play halo1 n 2 over cmon buddy even i know that and i got a life...phew...hah..
Yea, you've really gotta have a life to be posting something as dumb as that.
first off the monitor simply tells them thats theres 7 halos and that they need to go to the ARK if they want to activate/ disable all of the Halos. Now, why would the forerunners build a single complex to control the Halos if they were going to kill themselves? If the structure in the trailer is infact the ARK, then that swirling vortex could be slipspace, as I've mentioned before, providing truth to idea of a "great journey." Lets face it, its pretty hard to mistake mass death for a great journey to heaven. The forerunners probably viewed the region of space they were going to as a heaven because it was free of flood (if they did indeed flee this region of space). Perhaps before they were able to flee, they were betrayed by an ancestor of the prophets who activated the Halos before anybody got through the slipspace.
Anyways, my theory explains the swirling vortex, and I havent seen anyone else really spit any ideas out there, but I'd be interested to hear some of them. My theory also gives a new explaination for why the forerunner just disappeared.
I like the one dudes theory that the ARK is sending out a signal to the other Halos through slipspace, which explains the gas. It could also be that the ARK is destroying the Halos in the trailer.
