I'm a big Halo CE fanatic. With that said, Halo 2 is a fine game. But, certain aspects of it just aren't as enjoyable as Halo CE...and they might not be what you expect.

Halo 2 seems like it was not meant to be played by a group of friends in the same location, but rather by the lone player playing by himself/herself in their own house.

The field of view in Halo 2 is a lot smaller than in Halo CE. You can't see as much side to side, or from top to bottom. This causes things like dissorentaion problems. If you are near a wall or other object you can loose your sense of direction much easier than in Halo CE because everything has a zoomed in look to it now. This new field of view really shows itself when trying to play splitscreen. Me and a friend have played tens of thousands of games together of Halo CE on XBC. We have never had any issues with the splitscreen mode. When we try to play Halo 2, the zoomed in look of Halo 2 causes all kinds of problems. That, and the new larger HUD with the non-removable radar. Ever try to melee someone and get dissoriented? A lot of this is caused by the smaller field of view...well, that and the lunge effect coupled with the smaller field of view. Halo CE had no lunge when meleeing, and I also never lost my sense of direction or my target. Doesn't mean I always got him...lol Just means I never got dissoriented.

We normally play Halo CE with three people. Me and a friend on one TV splitscreen, and another friend will bring his own XBox and TV over and go onto XBC like that. We have tried again and again to get two boxes, both with XBox Live accounts online from the same location with negative results. I've seen this complaint alot, more so when Halo 2 first came out. With XBC you just plug the other XBox into the hub or router and you're off and running. So, now instead of having our friend use his own TV, now my friend and him have to share the bottom of the screen. Which would be OK if Halo 2 used the same field of view that Halo CE used.

Some of these problems are not even a Halo 2 problem, but an XBox Live problem. When XBL first came out and we saw a few games on it, we knew right then that it had shortcomings when trying to get a group of people playing on the same box, or the same location. We saw the writing on the wall, but hoped they would get the problem worked out by the time Halo 2 came out (because Halo was the only game we really cared about). Sure enough, Halo 2 came out and it just isn't geared for a full team of 4 people playing from the same location. Playing from our own induvidual houses just isn't as fun and exciting as it is when we are all in the same place. Just look at some of these games that have been coming out. You can't even play Call of Duty 2 splitscreen online. It only lets YOU play by yourself.

Very few playlists are geared for guests. You can't even choose the name you want, you end up being "HM Slayer's Guest" which isn't very exciting. My friend brought his account over on a memory card. We were able to play, him using his name, me using mine. That worked OK, but we still had the field of view problem.

We could just use XBC when we wanted to play together at the same location...but we've all paid our $50 a year for the XBL service, and see no reason why we can't enjoy it TOGETHER.

I heard the reason they changed the field of view was because the more powerfull graphics engine of Halo 2 wouldn't support it. Now we are in the age of the 360. It should be able to handle anything that Halo 3 can throw at it. I'm hoping they'll go back to the old field of view now that they have a more powerfull machine to work with.

As you can see this isn't a rant about weapons or maps or vehicles. Just a few things I hope they could look into while making Halo 3. It's going to be the last one, so they only have one more shot at this. I'm just hoping they take their time and don't get rushed and can put everything they want into it.

Oh, one last thing...I would really like to see a different matchmaking system. Personally I'd prefer a server list system. If you look on these forums, probably 80% of the complaints on here are directly connected to the fact that people have little to no choice in what they play. If you want to play an all rockets game on lockout, you are either screwed because it isn't on the playlists, or if it is, you may have to wait through 30 other games till it comes up. People are fickle and enjoy playing games a certain way. They love this map, but can't stand that map. They like these weapons, but don't like those. With a form of self populating rooms you can play how YOU want to. Need For Speed does this...I see no reason why Halo 3 can't.

Please view my posts on Halo 3 forum. You are correct that Halo 2 is platform in which to test multiplayer. When I finished Halo 2 (in a ten minute tea break) I felt asthough I needed to unlock some battles on Earth. I do not want to sound in any way ungreatful but too much time was invested in my humble opinion on creating a multiplayer vehicle that would reinvigorise the Halo franchise. Little concearn was given to the singleplayer campaign although I would like to make it abundantly clear that this was also partly done to lead to an epic storyline for Halo 3.
