Subject: A way to avoid the matchmaking quitter problem in Halo 3

I just want you to know that rocks aren't people.

Make an exception that if you quit to join a party, then that's okay. Here's why?

I'm in the middle of a match and I get an invite to join a friends party that I've been waiting for. Well do I wait my friend wait 10 minutes for me to finish up or do I quit and get punished for quitting? I say allow quitting if people jump into parties, where they can immediately play a game.

They could say that games with a party limit of 1 (i.e rumble pit games) would not have the penalty since you are not hurting your team by quitting. That way, if you want to kill time while waiting for friends to get on, play rumble pit or training. If they come on suddenly and you are in the middle of a Team Slayer game, then personally I think "tough," they will have to wait. It wouldn' t be too bad since your friends could just join a rumble training game and play until you are done, and then quit.

But what if I'm just really lazy and don't play? I just stand there in the game and get killed...racking up kills for the other team and not fighting back... This will happen much more.

Perhaps Bungie could make it so that if you stand still for too long, after a warning the game boots you.

If you are going to be "lazy," then you should be reported as cheating through feedback. It is not very fair to the rest of your party for you to not try.

A team voting option is actually something I have thought about for a while. Team voting to boot a player would be a good option. I think it should leave feedback with it too. So you could say: "Boot for cheating" or "Boot for team killing" or "Boot for singing."

I'd never finish a game, that's not fair

I think it is a bad idea to have penalties for people who quit. Quitters are quitters, whatever, but what about those of us who have to do things like take out the trash? Why should I have to wait to start up a new game because it is time for my trash to be taken out?

If you have to go take out the trash, then by the time you get back you will only have a minute or two at most to wait. Maybe none at all. The penalty length should be short, but just long enough to discourage "Quitters." And by "Quitters" I mean a person who quits a lot for his/her own personal reasons. Not those who quit rarely and for good reason.

Millions played halo 2 on LIVE so why not just re-route a player trying to join match making in the same game theme to that server, filling in the empty spot. That way if you quit, someone takes your place.

How about everyone just take turns coming to my house and playing a sys link match instead. That way when they try to quit, I can give them a flying snap-kick to the back of the neck when they get to the door. That will teach them to leave a game. It would also keep players from being lazy because if they weren't going to play right, I'd have their -blam!--assess cleaning up the place.

What if I quit a CTF game at the very start because the phone rings, only having it be a wrong number? Then lets say a team has superbounced the flag and is contesting it for 30 minutes...

Get my drift?

i like the idea
but how the hell could the game decide if the player had a good reason to live ?
dude, it could never work, because if the servers "asks" why the player leave, then the quitter will simply allways choose the option "forced by parents" or whatever, so it wouldnt help anyone
but forbiding players to play for 10mins if they leave game is good

If a player needs to leave for dinner, ot someone has died, then by the time they get back to playing, then their predetermined time to not play would have been over.

So the only way someone would be effected, is if someone left a game, then went straight into another game, in which case, i doubt they had a very important, or plausable reason to leave?

Good point, but hopefully, they wont use to Havok Engine, so therefore, no superbounce. But i the phone rings, i am sure you dont have to leave?

This is just stupid. You cant penalise a person for needing to leave, and you cant force someone to play. Plus, you cant use a solution to a problem from Halo 2 in Halo 3.

I tell them I'll be right there, then I play 3 or 4 more games, then get a sandwich, then take a dump, call another friend, play 3 more games, then go pick up the unlucky 'stard.

This is not really a punishment. If the game lags out, then you have to wait 5 or 10 min to play again. That really is not so bad. But people who are quitting because they are selfish won't want to quit because quitting would end up being worse than sticking it out.

It's still a waste of time when I did nothing wrong. Plus, as I said, who really wants to sit there while they get cheated in any way. I would never quit if I didn't get cheated, but I do, so I'd rather no be wasting my time while the cheater laughs at me for wanting to leave and getting a legit game.

In addition, the cheater would get out of MM at the same time as myself, and be able to play me again, since MM already proved that we could be matched up together, and, since I will be a high level, we almost certainly will.

My only solution would be to wait 5-10 minutes for him to get a different match, but that sounds sort of familiar, doesn't it? Quitting is fine. Play with your friends, or expect your random teammates to do random BS.

If you quit everytime the phone rings, you probably should not be playing team games. It is not fair to your team. I think you definitely should be penalized if you are willing to drop a game for every little thing.

Well lets see... if they are contesting it for 30 min, and you could have quit and just waited 5 or 10 instead, then you tell me where the real problem is? I'd say you should have just left. Your pennalty is much worse for just sitting in the game. If that happens, your whole team should report them for cheating.

Quitting is fine? Wow, I hope I never end up in your party.

And if I was always able to have several friends online to play with I would not really need matchmaking hardly at all.
