Subject: Is the Didact evil?

It's the prestige that makes the illusion.

Does the Didact hate humans?
At the end of the Halo 4 gameplay preview, it shows the Didact symbol with "and ancienct evil awakes" written under it.

I thought he was like all forerunner peacefull unless provoked like the Mantle teaches them.
And the Didact is the reincarnation of Bornstellar, does he have any memory of Bornstellar?
The didact always has dreams of Bornstellar so he should recognize humans right?
So why is he evil?

PS: for everyone who doesn't know, the enemies in the gameplay aren't Prometheans. They are defensive machines build by the original Didact and his prometheans before he's dead at the hands of Faber(the biggest forerunner loser).

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Is the Didact evil, or are we?

  • 06.11.2012 11:31 AM PDT

No one said he was evil, we don't know what's been going on. We do know that the first Didact hated humans, or at least really disliked us. We're also the reason Librarian died.

But other than that, we know nothing. If you'll notice his symbol flips upside down in the trailer. Some people have suggested that could be like the anti-christ upside down cross.

So we'll just have to wait and see.

I think the guy is pretty pissed off.

Those are pretty strong mindsets don't you think? The Didact hated what he did with the Composer as he respected the ancient humans as warriors and hated that he couldn't just let them die.

We're also the reason Librarian died.

She isn't dead though.

We don't know where she is, but according to Chakas, she is alive somewhere.

It's the prestige that makes the illusion.

Well,
the symbol is a bit diffrent than the didact's symbol.
and after some research i dicovered that it isn't the didact's symbol because it's unknown.

Why is it our fault that the Librarian died, i thought she destroyed her own ship.

like i said in another thread the symbol from the trailer does not have the empty hexagon as well as being red intead of blue.

Burn Bright, Burn Blue. Become one of KOGU, the Fire of Pride!

Leaf. AGAIN, Rampancy = red, normal = blue. See my Hard Light Theory for a full explanation, and the empty hexagon was obscured by the text. PLUS it has been 100,000 years, and a new Didact might have a /slighty/ different symbol.

Hey I am a big Bungie fan ever since I played Halo 2. I love the series, I love Bungie. I have made a few Bungie logos in my metal shop.

I think he turned evil. Or a double agent.

00Didact.

the empty is too large to be completely covered by the and would and would have at least partly I do agree that the two different didacts might have had slightly different although someone else mentioned the symbol turning upside down might mean it's some sort of anti-didact like the master builder.

We don't know where she is, but according to Chakas, she is alive somewhere.

But what does living mean.

Does it mean that she still exists in another form. Did the composer get her, and turn her into a machine. Or did she leave and left her body in the mind of another being.

I still think the ancient evil is ancient humanity. Or possibly Mendicant Bias. More likely Mendicant Bias.

They aren't evil.

Or possibly Mendicant Bias.

Most likely dead.

Mendicant Bias turned friendly and died (or destroyed) on the Ark after substantial fragmentation and the apparent destruction of the Ark. I think its Master Builder we're gonna be facing as the evil one. If the Didact's symbol is upside down , it means anti-Didact. And he clearly has a grudge towards the didact

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

My theory is: she's alive in Cortana, that whatever N6 delivered to Keyes, was more than just coordinates to the ringworld. That might be the reason Cortana hasn't died a typical A.I brain overload death. Although that might be cause of all Forerunner info she got into her head at the Control Room.

Vague theory is vague though..

Oddly, this is familiar to you, as if it were from an old dream, but you can't exactly remember...

You know, I like the theory more than anything I've seen here. Thank you.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I don't believe so.

1) It seemed clear to me that he had no love for us to begin with, even before Librarian died...

2) ...as far as he knows. Her being alive in some form will be a major influence in his allegiance.

It is Didact's symbol, just inverted.

And we were the reason she stayed behind, so in a sense, we're the reason she's dead (again, as far as Didact knows)

@Janaka: Would be an interesting way to make Reach have some relevance.
