Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

When trolling is done correctly it is great fun for everybody.

Would you troll me? I'd troll me. I'd troll me HARD.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

yeah but this site has some pretty lame trolls so we mostly see the bad ones banned.

Where would you say your 'line' is?

NSFW, anything that would get someone reprimanded, fired or scolded if they had it on their screen at work or in front of their parents. If it is a topic, something that you wouldn't discuss in front of colleagues, coworkers, your boss, or your bosses boss (or a customer).

I'm relatively pretty tolerant, I certainly don't have thin skin. I am nearly unsquickable, but I know when something is inappropriate for this site. Certainly, my line has moved over the years, usually due to Bungie staff or my colleagues pointing out an inconsistency or point that I had not considered before.

IMO, this is a fun, friendly place, unlike most others on the Internet. If I preferred something more rough and tumble, more mature (in content or conduct), I can/will/do have the ability to visit and enjoy those sorts of sites. But I like to think that I know to wipe my feet (and what to leave outside) whenever I come into this house.

Interesting information, thanks.

Would you be more likely to reprimand somebody who has had their topic 'set' as "reported" rather than just one which you stumbled upon [for the sake of the situation, let's say they are identical posts about Console v Console]?

It's not specifically mentioned in the rules because "trolling" is such a vague term, and it its self it's not really harmful. If "trolls" are being jerks or harming the forums in any way the rules still apply, like "play nice" or "don't be a jerk".

You mean "itself," pinhead.

That's a really good question.

I've seen reported and collapsed posts that I know that I saw while participating in the forum and didn't consider them to be that "bad".

Is my opinion altered if enough of my fellow members took the time to report and collapse it? I could, especially if I was on the fence to begin with. But again, if I disagree with the report, I will act on my judgement. I may lock (in order to placate the reporting members) but choose not to warn or ban the member (because while I agreed that the topic could/should be closed, I didn't view the OP as either an intentional or malicious attempt to disrupt or break rules).

It's a case-by-case basis and there really isn't a set mental algorithm that I can define. It truly is subjective, and I confess, that means it isn't 100% consistent as in "if a topic on _____ is locked, then ALL topics on ____ will be locked". Yes, there are some subjects that are consistently treated (some guy named John Cessna or something, for example) but others may appear to be completely inconsistent. I can't do better than admit that I understand it could be frustrating. I can promise that we all try to be as consistent within our own actions as possible, but even then, we all change, we learn, we (hopefully) improve.

Кланяються мені!

Seems more and more like members want rules to be treated like laws with set punishments for specific types of rule breaking. Members who ______ should be banned for ______. Then said members would complain if such a system was created.

My, isn't the internet wonderful?

Cheers for that.

Would you say that the way the topic is worded sways your opinion i.e. if somebody is insulting/negative about a particular product are you more likely to see them as trolling rather than if they are positive about their own product?

My final question is, do you take into account the number of replies a topic has before taking action against the owner? I say this because you've said that you "could" be potentially persuaded by a negative community reaction of reporting it, so would you also be persuaded by the positive reaction of posting in the offending thread?

Consistently throughout your posts in this thread you have mentioned that each ninja on the forum has their own line to what they consider right and wrong. Due to this, have you ever gone head to head with another moderator that believes on a different punishment for someone who breaks the rules. For example, you want the thread locked but the other ninja(let's say Qbix) prefferes to give the person a 14 day ban. You disagree and being the first moderator to the thread you lock it. However Qbix comes and issues the 14 day ban against your wishes. Has stuff like this happened?
