Subject: Topic creation preview should show a topic listing preview as well

When previewing a topic you're creating, the preview page should show the topic as it will appear on the forum page as well. The idea being that the author will be able to see how much of their title will be shown and can adjust from there.

Similarly, a preview of how the title will be displayed inside the topic would also help.

Makes sense I suppose. The title bar could always have a character warning too.

  • 06.12.2012 12:37 AM PDT

This seems perfectly legitimate. I see no reason why this shouldn't be implemented. I guess it could be it's own little box off to the side with scroll bars and everything. Or it could be a totally separate window. I'm not too big on web design.

"You get what you put into it."

When Legendary is too mainstream, you have Heroic. When you're the leader of the church of MLGeezus, have Epic in your username, and can't write 'About Me's' to save your life, what do you get?

This guy. And now, an side note: Most things I post contain lethal doses of sarcasm, so be warned, and try not to take me seriously.

Finally, a message to Bungie trolls everywhere.

I just noticed that when making a thread not long ago. I agree completely.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

The Black Chapter!

It would be nice if there was some way of flagging up that you've exceeded the limit of what can be shown on the main topic listing.

We don't need this, yes, but why on earth does that mean we shouldn't have it?

Quote from Confucius

By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

Sounds good for those long question like topics

We don't need this is just the standard reply to any topic that suggests an improvement to the site.

I hate it so much I thought I'd say it before anyone else did.

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to your idea if you just posted this in HFCS?

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

How do you propose that would work? Would it go in a little box above the post, like this?Topic creation preview should show a topic......Then you would edit it after this preview? Or do you mean a snapshot of the forum homepage with your proposed thread title?

  • 06.12.2012 8:21 AM PDT

Not a bad idea I guess.

This would great. You could get some red text warning you that you have exceeded the character limit either at the top or bottom of the subject box.

By chance, does anybody actually know the limit?

That's excessive. The easiest solution is to limit the characters in thread titles so that they will never be truncated on the thread listing. Problem solved.

Sounds cool. But aren't YOU the one that needs to implement the changes or address it to someone that can?

He only moderates, he doesn't have a job at Bungie and he doesn't have the ability to update the website. A moderator could send a message to an employee (and so could you), but this (making a topic on the subject) is probably better.

I know there has been a time or two that I could have saved myself an edit if we had this feature. But a feature like this would be even more useful if we were able to choose a custom thread icon. It would be nice if the OP could select from a few different icons to convey what the thread topic is about.

For example take this thread. It might be nice if the icon next to the thread had a lightbulb next to it, that way you have a notion of what the topic is about. For the case of a lightbulb, you could expect the thread to offer somesort of idea.
