I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.--Teddy Roosevelt

I just reread Palace Hotel in Halo Evolutions, and it specifically mentions that Master Chief does not know. But since the story isn't fully true to canon anyways, should this fact be considered credible?

What do you mean it "isn't true to canon"? Last I checked it is.

Palace Hotel had certain differing plot points from Halo 2. For instance, Halo 2 didn't have John's pre-Spartan childhood friend as the C.O. at the Hotel.

Pretty sure The Flood novel had differences as well, it's still 100% canon.

He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
We are in the hands of infinite power and infinite sadism

OT: I would assume that John probably has his own assumptions about it- he has known Halsey since he was 6. And while Cortana may keep secrets from him, I believe she is also very personal with John.

Also the voice is a giveaway

They both can't be 100% canon when they have differing plot points. As the original source material, the Game overrides all other mediums of Halo.

No he doesn't.

Not too sure if that is 343's policy.

I hate to butt into yall's conversation but its a very universal given that gameplay trumps literature/other media. Take some in-game books from The Elder Scrolls, for example.

Infernal City was an awful read imo. Lusty Argonian Maid on the other hand...

False. Each universe decides it's own rules.

343 has clearly stated IIRC, that halo is no longer a "game trumps everything in case of conflict".

Then they plan on conflicts between the literature and their games? Does Bungie still have rights to the novels?

I bet he suspects, he's had a close enough relationship with both of them and is smart enough to add two and two.

Many gave their lives so that we could live on. I intend to honor them by remembering them. Remember Cyborg. Remember John. Remember Noble.

My sense says he would tell they are similar in many ways. But then again, that is what I think of the Chief.

This. (Tell me all you want. You know it's true. It's like this rule when something is on the floor for no longer than 3 seconds.)

OT: I bet he knows. Anyone could see smimilarities at the least.
Also, does it matter in any way?

It can explain why they get on the way they do.

But John wouldn't give a crap.

Considering he has one of the greatest minds known to mankind I would assume he has made the connection.

I think they believe they can make everything fit perfectly with each other... across the different media.

Chief isn't one of the greatest minds known to mankind.

Many gave their lives so that we could live on. I intend to honor them by remembering them. Remember Cyborg. Remember John. Remember Noble.

I know smart people who would say Cortana and Halsey have nothing in common.
Doesn't this require more empathy or social feeling? John could have some of that.

-scratch that-

I did a replay of the Cortana level and I heard her saying: Collection of lies, that's all I am. Stolen thoughts and memories!
Later she says: I'm just my mother's shadow, don't look at me, don't listen- I'm not who I used to be...

Now this really seems to point at the similarity between Cortana and Halsey. When she said mother, she must have meant Halsey. Besides, Rampancy is the status of an AI that starts to realize it is not a real person, but a program. She might know she was copied.

Now if I add all of these things together, Chief would definitely know by now. He experienced those Cortana/Gravemind moments...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Halsey, Miranda, and Cortana form a trinity that is a semi-similar female version of the Holy Trinity found in Christianity. They are the Mother, Daughter, and Holy Ghost. Three in one.

They never had rights to any of it, it was always MS.

Anyway, yes Palace Hotel is 100% canon. Keep in mind the flow of gameplay restricts storytelling in shooters, especially older ones. The books simply work to better flesh out the events that haven't been depicted, or insufficiently so in such cases.

And IIRC, the policy is new>old.

He had to be, it was part of the selection parameters for the SII's. Take a look at Kurt; again, IIRC, he had an IQ nine points higher than Stephen Hawking's (alleged) score. Two of the SIIIs were smarter still, and they were the generation with less strict parameters.

John has been said to be average as far as Spartans go, but as leader of the II's he'd need to be particuarly gifted, at least tactically.
