If people care so much about her look 343i will go out of their way to make her look attractive.

Her dialogue and presence was intimidating.

I do like the video feature, reminds me of Ghost Recon, finally we get face time with Cortana more often.

Personally I quite like the new look Cortana, if anything its the only believable makeover in H4 that could be justified by lore. I am much more concerned by the weird makeovers of the Elites and Grunts and even the Master Chief's Mk VI (which I actually like by the way).

It's hard to take a sci-fi seriously when the aesthetic is something in constant flux, it would be like the Millennium Falcon changing in every Star Wars film without reason and us viewers being expected to just roll with it. I understand that H4 is sort of a reboot by 343i but I just don't understand why they felt it merited one. A jump forward in time in the Halo universe helps justify new weapons and factions but it doesn't justify the Chief completely changing or Grunts changing their physiology.

Personally for me the biggest disappointment is the Warthog. Beforehand it has been a trusty and beautifully designed vehicle that looked like a human design but with futuristic suspension linkages underneath (the wheel arms) but for some reason 343i felt it needed redesigning so that the suspension has been replaced by double-wishbone suspension instead. Double-wishbone suspension was designed in the 1930s, and it just looks unoriginal and dull compared to the wheel arms of the classic Warthog.

Elites and Grunts changes are explained by lore, in Glasslands we're told that without the Engineers former Covenant tech is falling apart. And that's right after the war - H4 takes place 4 years later.

So glasslands explains how grunts physically changed? Why their skin is different, number of toes/fingers is different?

Physiology = body. Not armor or gear.

I've played Halo since the day before it was released back in 2001 and I feel that Cortana was always that girlfriend away from home, I was 8 when the Halo series was released unto the world, and all I can say is I want to have a smoking hot hottie talking to me while I kill things, and Cortana will always be that smoking hot hottie.

If you don't like her becoming hot then you're a bender!

Also Die-hard fans of the series will probably agree, first, her voice was hot, then she was hot, Problem New-blam!-s?

Haha, this.

I have to admit I'm liking her new look! Seeing her on my HUD now will only make it all the sweeter. At the end of the day however I just hope she dies in an epic fashion. Don't deny! Cortana must die!

That's just graphics updates. You're not going to get the same thing every Halo game.

Yeah, notice how in every one, the grunt has THREE toes(+ one in the back)

Check this out http://www.halopedian.com/images/9/99/Halo4_Grunt.png I see four toes, and no toe in the back

Skin is completely different. It's not 'updated' it's brand new. Hell, it doesn't look like an exoskeleton as described for grunts. It looks like SKIN, with tougher spots on hands and feet.

However, their bodies are armored with a hard exoskeleton as with crabs and insects.
The Unggoy have flat, three-toed feet, with another toe on the back of their feet.

She looks pretty good, IMO. But you can't be sure what she really looks like without some ingame pictures.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I´m fine with it, although I have noticed her color has changed from Halo 3 to Halo 4.

I just think they went overboard. I actually liked having a female character with little to no sex appeal (CE). Some of you guys are saying they're trying to make her more human and sympathetic. First off, THAT'S what they think a regular woman looks like? Has anyone ever met somebody with double D breasts and a tiny waist like that? I find it hard to be sympathetic towards something that doesn't even resemble a real person. Not that it's a HUGE deal or anything, but I did prefer CE or H2 cortana.

I half-support your rant, but only appearance-wise. They should have kept the same overall facets of her character and changed perhaps the patterns on her skin, the little details on her. I don't mind the "sexified" appearance. In fact, she looks much more human now, even if she is a bit more... well, more.

I do like the premise on her character development, and her ongoing struggle with rampancy, it will certainly be a very interesting plot element. In this light, her appearance seems almost trivial.

Don't forget she also doesn't show her holographic body 90% of the time. Her voice and character define cortana, not her looks.

PD I don't mind the boobs :D

That's about all there is to say really.

I think Halo 3s Cortana was the most attractive, but I agree with OP.

If anyone wants to get together and play some Marathon Durandal on the xbox contact me and we can work something out.

Yea i agree with the "bloated" statement, plus i just dont like that hair, it just looks bad. It was fine the way it was.

Make Bungie.net More Enjoyable: Read & Follow

The fourth visage in the image to which the OP linked is, in my consideration and terminology, an "acanonicum" by the most obvious and simple standards, and one that literally prompted laughter when I first saw it, which was when I saw the OP's image...

Let me ask a serious question here (I have used this analogy before): if all the sudden we have Microsoft depicting Cortana as a unicorn, are we going to close-mindedly and unquestioningly accept the canonicity of the depiction, just because "the people in charge say so"? Not me. The Halo Canon is written and defined - any such depiction would be a complete departure from the true canon we have been shown through and by the "Great Window of The True Halo Canon" - the Halo Trilogy.

It's gradualism - before you know it, Cortana will be a dancing unicorn in a few more "Halos". I could just laugh it off and move on if I didn't know that there are people who actually acknowledge the canonicity of Halo 4.

Words that describe the visage I mentioned above are fanciful, interpretive, meretricious, iconoclastic, and disrespectful. It's like comparing classical Greco-Roman art/architecture (Halo Trilogy) to modern abstract art (Halo 4 Cortana).

I agree with the OP's disappointment.

I rather wish they kept her how she was in Halo: Combat Evolved. She was a helpful, snarky and well written AI character.

Afterward... well, holographic AI breasts.

Happy hunting.

I think you're correct saying that they're going for sex appeal. After all making a game is about making money, so the more sex appeal, the more buyers. I personally don't like the change.

Many have been saying she has changed in every game. But it was touches to make Cortana look more emotional, to help with the story. As 343 are making her look sexy for sales.

Why don't you compare Cortana in Halo 2/3/Reach to Halo CE before you start pointing the finger at Halo 4, this attractiveness is NOT a new concept.
Exactly.

Also while obviously the "attractiveness" has risen with each new iteration of the game I don't think it's simply that, it's also in large part because with the power that the new game systems have 343 and Bungie have the ability to make her more realistic.

Halo 4 Cortana

You realize Halo 4's Cortana doesn't look like that? It's a concept piece, which I'm not even positive was provided by 343.

She looks similar, but the in game one looks more real, imo.
Also Roberto with a dose of truth.

No, ExcessiveFaun6 is not my real gamertag.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cortana: The message just repeats. "Regret, Regret, Regret."
Miranda: Any idea what it means?
Sgt. Johnson: Dear Humanity... we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
Marines: Hoo-rah!

Honestly, Cortana isn't losing any of her "Cortana-ness", for lack of a better word. She is still going to have great banter with the Chief, and all of her complexities and flaws that have been developed in the previous games will become if anything, more evident than they have been in the past.

To me the added sex appeal of Cortana almost completes her; if she were an actual woman she would be entirely desirable... extremely intelligent, witty, compassionate, perhaps even brave. It only seems natural in my mind to have such a desirable persona take on an equally desirable form for its physical manifestation.
