Subject: Noticed something about the banning system.

If YOU like THIS, then I don't like YOU.

I have OCD, and I'm frequently banned, so this thing has been annoying me for ages.

When you're banned, a text in your profile reads, "This user is banned until [place date here]". Saying "this user" instead of "you" implies that the text is meant for other people to read, in case they are wondering if you are banned or not.

However, when someone else gets banned, and you go to their profile, the text isn't there. So despite saying "this user is banned", it doesn't tell you about other peoples' forum posting status, just yours.

I think this should either be fixed by allowing other users to see the ban text, just so they can learn about your whereabouts without asking. Just to avoid confusion.

Or, make it so the text reads "You" instead. After all, you're the only one capable of reading it at this point.

Haha, I noticed this yesterday. It's trivial, but sure, I agree with your second option.

I sure hope the web team sees this so they can give people the best banning experience possible

It's no big deal obviously, it's just bugging me how inaccurate it is.

Deal with it. I'm sure that out of everything on Achronos's list of things to do in prep for the new hawtness this ranks at the bottom of the list

Getting a little uppity over it, are you? I know it's not a big deal, but it's still worth being brought to attention.

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

OCD you say? I come bearing gifts.

Perhaps forum moderators and/or site administrators can also see it. Just a thought.

I don't think other users need to see that message since they can still send you messages and see you in groups. It may be a little confusing.

I <3 you too Bungie

I once found "Dave's mom" pasted into the keywords section of a site about 1000x. Apparently, one of the dev guys just wanted filler text and didn't want to use lorem ipsum. It ended up never getting replaced.

Maybe similar situation here? Someone was framing the system and then left the unofficial copy?

The reason someone is banned is considered private...If the user wants to share that info they can...otherwise there's no need to have it in the open.

How exactly is it a private matter? I don't get it, who would mind having people know your banned?

There's already a method for that son.

I'm not seeing any convenience in your suggestion at all. Knowing that someone is banned is absolutely unnecessary. What would you do with such information?

...Know that they are banned. Duh.
And even more importantly, how long it will take for them to be unbanned.

It honestly doesn't take much ingenuity to figure out uses of the feature.
Stuff shouldn't not be implemented because it seems small. That's just stupid.

You're right, your idea shouldn't be implemented because it's small....it should't even be considered because it's useless.

Apparently you can't read, either. I said it shouldn't not be implemented. Which is a double negative. Which implies that what I'm saying is that SHOULD be implemented.

Second, I just GAVE you a use for it in the damn post.
It's in the second line my text. Don't worry, you'll find it. I have faith in you.

Sometimes I like to know exactly when my friend is going to be unbanned in the mains, but can't be bothered to ask him. Or, maybe he's not online at the moment. Ever think of that? No. You didn't. What a wonderful person you are. Very proactive.

Sarcasm aside, use your brain. It shouldn't take any ingenuity at all to figure out how this feature could be useful if you make it so all users can see it. I shouldn't have to spoonfeed it to you like this like you're a baby.

Yeah..I typed a double negative....either way I'm sticking to my guns....there's no point in spending time implementing such a feature.....I'm more concerned with what the Hawtness upgrade will do for the site....Guess what, I don't care when someone's on or not....They post and I see it yipee, if not, the world keeps turning....Allow me to suggest an alternative....

A while ago meaning I can't remember for -blam!-, someone brought up the idea of a tag that went somewhere on the profile that could be displayed like the links in my sig...a feature that says if the user is online by tracking the most recent post...kinda like that modstalk ting cept more precise and actually updates. There's no reason for the ban to be visible...it's more practical to just have an online/offline identifier. The way I see if certain people are banned is go to their latest post and if I can't see it then they're obviously banned...however, I've only done this once or twice in the span of a year.

So you basically missed the WHOLE point. And besides, do you think you speak for the entire community? You're wrong if you do. Dead wrong.

Yeah, if you want to create unnecessary work for yourself. Yay.

The idea here is convenience. I gave you a perfectly legitimate scenario in which any old user could express concern for their friend by not bugging them to ask if they are banned when you could easily visit their profile and see "This user is banned until 6/20/2012 12:00 PM PDT" or whatever.

Keep putting words in my mouth, I'm enjoying it. Your idea has nothing to do with community's benefit....it's all about your personal preference.

Well thank God it ain't my idea....and you know what, I don't give a -blam!- about who's banned and who isn't it ain't my problem...
