Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

Have we gotten any word about how sign-in will change within coming months?

I mean, obviously at the moment we're on a Windows Live system at the moment; in the future will we stick with this or move onto something else which would support PSN account linking, for example.

I ask because I'm not sure if something has been said by our lords and masters themselves, and I've missed it.

A common approach they might use is to begin supporting their own login mechanism while also federating login to other services, like XBL or PSN.

I personally hope they use openid to manage identity and simply allow us to link PSN and XBL identities; that way everyone would have one less user name / password to remember and could sign in using any of a number of identity services ( facebook, twitter, linked in, myopenid, etc )

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

PSN is not on the same caliber as XBL. Bungie would not dishonour themselves by allowing PSN handles to become interactive with bungie.net

Bye.

They will probably just have a singular "Sing in" button that accepts other emails, like gmail and the other one.

PSN's technical inferiority to XBL should have nothing to do with Bungie wanting to embrace a community as large and varied as possible.

With going cross platform, Bungie has an all or nothing choice to make; they can't include XBL but exclude PSN identities without alienating their PS community members.

Keep in mind that Bungie's community isn't made up solely of exclusive XBox players - there are plenty of people here who play on other systems. If anything, showing your online persona for PSN in addition to XBL is just another notch on your gamer card

Why would Activision care? That's silly.

Windows Live ID is the only method available to us to gain authenticated access to your gamertag. Without it, we don't know what your Xbox Live account is.

Even in a theoretical migration, bungie.net has no access to either your login or your password. We send you to live.com, you sign in there (watch where you get sent when you hit sign in), and that site send you back to us with a secure cookie use to attach you to your local data (profile, forums, groups, etc.)

That being said, we are very aware that the current implementation is... less than ideal. Part of the problem is interacting with systems outside of our control, but we can do better. Improving the sign in/identity/account management aspect of bungie.net is pretty high up on our list of "things we need to get better at".

Think about it - we want it to be very easy to join and have a positive experience in this community. If the sign in is in any way difficult, it turns people away. That is very bad.

I was wondering this myself. I bet Activision isn't too happy about them still using a Microsoft sign-in system.

Forgot all about this.

Definitely looking forward to it, as I have many friends who refuse to use the site because "the log in sucks".

lolwut?

Considering Bungie hasn't gone public with Destiny yet, nor their intentions to make it multiplatform, there should be a few people to nobody on this site who doesn't own an Xbox and an only slightly larger majority who don't have XBL accounts to sign in with. I fail to see how signing in on here sucks.

I know it's not your words, but I just don't get their point of view or anyone's point of view who isn't in favor of the current system.

"..We chose to partner with Activision on our next IP because of their global reach, multi-platform experience..."(Press Release). The multi platform intentions are quite in the open.

As for a better log in, I am all for it. The WLID system is flawed.

It's like a gigantic snowball, rolling down a mountain, eating kids on the way.

I'm actually really looking forward to an improved sign-in. I've had my fair share of problems with it.

Just drink a beer and everything will be ok

It's not that bad.

I don't think I've actually had success signing into B.Net lately but I just go to xbox.com and sign in there. Takes an extra 10 seconds meh!

And I only ever sign out when the browser cookies are deleted.

I'm sure the current system could be improved upon, but honestly, to me it's fine as it is.

Saying "Yeah, we're making some sort of game about something that'll be multiplatform but not necessarily on or not on the PS3" isn't enough to bring in a large amount of primarily PSN users.

does how well you can sing the Bungie anthem determine your member rank?

i think he's saying that by how well you sing determines how the signing in process goes...

Yeah, the system recognises your singing abilities and if it don't match, you ain't logging in.

The system has no faults

Almost all of Bnet's regular users came here through Halo. Came for the stats, stayed for the forums.

When we get a trailer for the Destiny launch in 2013, and that trailer says the game is developed by Bungie, but will be for PS3 and PC too... the sign-in on Bnet will eventually change to, perhaps, something similar to the one on callofduty.com - but hopefully a lot better.
