What a waste....

I was reading Contact Harvest again, and I was wondering, why did the Forerunner Dreadnought have a Luminary, and what was it used for? I can only assume it was a radar system, but I have a feeling that's wrong...

Also, what if the installation the Lekgolo were chewing on when the Prophets found them was the Halo in Primordium? It supposedly orbited the gas giant at one point, so...?

The Luminary was a Forerunner artifact used for the identification of more Forerunner relics. In Contact Harvest it identified humans as reclaimers which the covenant misinterpreted as reclamation.

This is an example of how you can remain factually accurate, stay on-topic, and yet not answer the OP's question in any way whatsoever.

He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.

I understand that not answering the second question but it seems to sum up the first? As to the second question, I dont understand what you mean OP

^^^ I think I remember, no I think where they were on High Charity where they are around notable Forerunner tech was the Keyship on the top center of HC. I think thats where they had the inactive Moniter

Yeah...no, I'm pretty sure they were feeding on the Forerunner ruins found on their own planet Te, seeing how they were stuck to their own planet.

Wasn't the Primordium Halo Installation 07? I don't think it was destroyed.
It was a random guess. I think it might be a Halo Installation, however, because the Halo in Primordium was big enough near the end to surround the planet entirely. If a different Halo exploded but was near the size of 07, it could be feasible that the debris formed the ring of stuff around Te that the Prophets found the Lekgolo dining on.

For those of you confuse with the first question, the thing I;m wondering is, why did the Dreadnought need to find other Forerunner relics? What purpose would that serve?

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Friggin deal with it

All Covenant ships were outfitted with them to do nothing more than to scan for Forerunner Artifacts. Answer to second question is the first time Halo was discovered by the Covenant was during the events of "Halo CE", so I don't think that was where they were.

He's not trolling, he's answering your question. Luminaries were a reverse-engineered Forerunner technology that detected Forerunner artifacts, facilities and other things associated with them. Every Covenant ship had a luminary so they could find Forerunner relics.

He raises a valid point in regard to your second question. Installation 04 was the first Halo to be discovered, so I doubt that the Lekgolo were chewing on a Halo, else the Covenant would have killed us all a lot sooner.

Search And Rescue. It detects FR tech and (presumably) FR's. So if someone crashes somewhere, he can be found easily. (FR version is presumably more powerful than covie one.) Also surveillance and stuff...

Ah. Yes, I guess that would make sense...

*facepalm*

I did not ask what the Covenant used them for. I asked what FORERUNNERS USED THEM FOR.

And with regards to question 2, I'm saying that the rings around Te (what looked to be various space rocks) that the Hunters were chewing on was actually the remnants of a destroyed Halo. I thought of this because in Primordium, *spoilers* when trying to avoid the gas giant, Chakas is going to try to fit the Halo all the way around the planet (I don't remember if they ended up doing that or something else).

  • 06.15.2012 11:18 AM PDT

Oh what the FORERUNNERS used them for, sorry, I'll read properly next time.

My guess is a sort of radar thing? I suppose when they inhabited so many different planets it was an easy way of seeing which planets they actually occupied?

I'm sure it was some sort of radar, maybe even IFF system that the Covenant warped.
