So it wasn't an incoherent piece of crap? Thank god. I don't feel like too much of an idiot now.

So true. We never had this problem back in 04/05.

Do you mean just younger members talking about older Bungie games (I.E. Pathways, Myth, Marathon, etc.) or them talking about older Bungie lore or events that they weren't around for? Or both?

I could understand both. It's kind of like the kid who didn't see a fight happen in school, so he goes around and asks everyone for details so they can pretend they saw it, too.

But here's my take on it:

If a younger member wasn't around for an early game, lets say Myth for example, but he's read up on it and maybe even played it, then I think it's totally fine for him to talk about it. As long as he's not like "OMG GUYS I WAS THE FIRST TO PLAY THIS GAME" then I think it's okay.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I don't know who does that. This is the Bungie fanbose for all their games.

I do like hearing about Bungie's older games and past things because I find it is interesting.

I suspect llamas are secretly wizards. I <3 poptarts n' milk. I like me. Grimick is defined as: a logical parodox, the act of funnaling a potato down your throat, and a deliciously flavored muffin (with pecons and blueberries). Norway is the Swedish word for 'moron'. My sister has cancer, so i get to use handicap parking and cut small children in line at Disneyland.

"Don't eat doughnuts on thin ice."

"The pancake, my friend, has officially been flipped."

A couple things:

First of all this was a fun read, and I think you ought to know that. If I look closely enough I can see a little bit of the seperation that you're talking about, but I don't really feel it. I mean, I would have never really noticed it except for the fact that people complain about it so often :/

Another thing I think needs to be said is that I had forgotten neopets existed up until now where out of the blue here they are brought up again. Great; and I was just getting over the emotional scarring that years of seeing stupid adds on the side of my computer had inflicted on my delacite soul. Yay for you.

As long as the community's perception of me is almost somewhat accurate I don't care that much what my bar says. (Although I do wish I had been more active sometimes...)

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

Generations gaps are inevitable. Older members came here at an earlier time (obviously) and have ergo known each other for longer. It's only natural that people prefer to hang out with friends they've known longer as opposed to the new waves of fans that proceed to come in, especially during the announcement of new games - which is where the "annoyance" you described can occur.

With new users comes threads which are new to them and their cohort, but old and redundant to the older class; because such answers to questions were provided to them already. To steal Spawn's analogy; someone who starts working in retail knows nothing about the location of certain items, so they proceed to ask staff who have worked at the store longer where these items are located. As one asks more and more, the more and more the older staff member can get irritated. It's not because of the question, it's because they already know the answer and expect the person asking the question to know it, too.

The problem is; it's inevitable, and nothing is going to change or stop repeat threads from appearing (more predominantly in threads which can only provided little discussion topic, like the Community Forum). The reason? New people are going to ask the questions because they are new, either to the site, or one of its particular forums. They're not going to go back to see if their thread has been made in the past, they want to post and get an answer or feedback as quickly as possible.

This is maybe one of the reasons these "generation" gaps appear tangible, because the annoyance eventually shows, which forms niches within the community.

The Forerunner, the Great Journey, and Heaven Theory

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

There's two causes of generational gaps here; account age and actual age.

Generalizations inbound...

Account age allows you to understand the unique "flavor" (events, people, unique lexicon, etc) of these forums and to establish yourself as an individual entity. This is true not just for B.net but for any organization. Simply put, new users will not have the same specific set of knowledge about these forums as older users will and thus will be left out of more than a few conversations.

Actual age presupposes maturity and a higher degree of critical thought (really just a barrier between adolescence and adulthood the latter of which takes some people a longer time to achieve). If you're new here but are an adult, you'll have a much easier time picking up on the flavor of the forums and adjusting to it.

My personal thoughts on the matter is that if you discuss things in a thoughtful manner, you'll be fine. If you're new here but can convey your thoughts clearly and have an actual conversation, I won't care if you've been here for years or for a day. While newer users may not know the history or people here, the shared experience of being human beings can provide enough to talk about until they get acclimated (and to be honest most of the Bungie memes, history, etc. aren't that interesting anyway since most seem to come up daily).

Admittedly, i always get annoyed when there is a new influx of members on the forum, they are here for the game that's just come out, as opposed to the community, they stay in their forums and seem particularly self righteous, what i do like however, is when these members do stick around and begin assimilating into the community, it makes it all worthwhile!

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

Man of God. Fan of Bungie. Eater of many Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers.

It's something that will always be around. It's not overly present here. I rarely see conflicts in the Community Forums at all, let alone because of generation gaps. I'm not sure where everyone is seeing this stuff but I never really come across it. Maybe I'm just ignorant. I don't know.

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I don't discriminate based on age. I discriminate based on level of stupidity.
