Subject: Having to refresh for threads to update

I hate having to refresh for new posts to appear. Isn't there some sort of JS that allows a thread to update without freshing?

I ♥ Bungie!

I don't know, but I have allways wanted threads to update like that.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Perhaps this will be among the updated designs and features in the site's upcoming re-unveiling.

I myself don't like auto-updating. So if this feature is added, hopefully it can be toggled off.

Wont that take up a lot of Bungie's bandwidth? That would make the website awful.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

I would imagine this would put a good strain on the servers, not to mention - in my eyes - fairly pointless. Why refresh when you could enter another thread (or forum) and come back later to see if there's replies?

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

Having to refresh is a good thing, in my opinion. Makes conversations move a little slower, so you can have a meaningful conversation, rather than a massive chat room, which is what an auto-updating forum would essentially become.

People already have a hard enough time thinking out what they type before they post it, so imagine how bad conversations could get if you had a "time limit" (pressure is on to post your thoughts before you get lost in the sea of posts).

As cool as the idea would seem, I still wouldn't want it. Just the fact that I'd rather refresh the page, instead of it always updating consistently.

A good idea. If it's added, I'd hope for it to be an easily accessed optional feature; I don't think I would be able to keep up with the movements of the flood, or a topic that's just been posted in by an employee.

This'd be a mess in the Flood, not to mention annoying.

What?

It works perfect on /b/ and /v/ which gets a whole lot more traffic then the flood.

I don't see how it would be annoying tbh.

  • 06.16.2012 6:11 AM PDT

Auto refreshing would really irritate me. If it is ever available here I hope it's optional.

  • 06.16.2012 6:20 AM PDT

GGGGGGggggggggggggGGGG

Imagine what the Flood would be like with auto updating. You wouldn't be able to have a good look at the titles of the threads.

Such linear thought here.

Use your imagination a bit.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

Am I to assume that you have a more creative means of forum organisation in mind?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bye.

I don't really see the point in this auto-refresh(ing) idea. When you enter a thread you'll (hopefully) read through the replies and then either post or leave the thread. If you choose to reply you're redirected to a page which is, while still part of the thread, not attached to it. You won't see the effect the auto-refresh would have while in the "Create reply" mode.
