First off, I want to say the the multiplayer experience on Halo 2 is near perfect. That having been said, I think there is some room for improvment. The main problem I find in the matchmaking experience is the presence of so many cheaters. One way I think much of the cheating could be eliminated would be to get rid of the number system that designates rank. While I do think that system worked really well for matching people up, I feel it was the driving force behind many of the cheaters out there. If we made the number ranking something that wasn't ever visible to the player and only was used to match people up by the system, much of the incentive to cheat would be gone. Now I know this wouldn't completly solve the problem of cheating but I feel it would alleviate it a lot.
Now I know people couldn't live without the system telling them how good they are and that's why I feel Bungie should harken back to the days of Wolfenstien (with a few changes) and have a section dedicated to tracking all of the player's stats. These would list everything that all the 3rd party tracking sites do such as average hit %, total kills, bomb plants, flag captures, etc. It would also show your overqal rank amongst your FRIENDS ONLY.
I feel that this would satisfy everyone who really needed to know how good they are as well as take away the incentive for many of the cheaters out there now. Let me know what you think.
