Comparing a fictional organization sewt 500 years in the future to an organization the is barely 6 decades old is... I don't mean to be insulting but... stupid. It just boogles my mind to think that one would believe the world wouldn't change in 500 years... The just having the name United Nations Space Command (or whatever it is) means that it would function like our current UN (regardless of your opinion of it).

Well, in the Fall of Reach, it said that the UN government was on the verge of colapsing into a hundred wars and rebellions. That's why the Spartans were created, to deal with Rebels and outlaws to try and help bring the Earth colonies together again. Plus, I think that a kind of cnflict like the one presented to humanity in Halo, would bring all of the countries together despite religious and ecenomic differences. Those types of things always do when people are posed with extinction. So a future UN wouldn't be completely unplausible.

Well actually that was the outer colonies because when people are far from law people break the law. Take the seas for example pritates broke the law all the time until the iron will of law enforcement came down.

The world could easily integrate further, as with the EU. Especially if we discover intelligent life on other planets. Then Earth's differences would be largely forgotten or seen as minor compared to the differences between the newly discovered race, and Earth would unify to collectively become a larger force, similar to how the 13 colonies united to fend off Britian.

The likeliness of another intelligent life is so small that I'm more likely being hit by lightening on a cloudless day.

Sorry about that. Just that I thought we were having a silly discussion about whether UNSC made sense in the Halo Universe. I... oh never mind... its all just goofy.

To Make Posts is Glorious

Some threads will get posts before others and it is the duty of the Leadership to ensure that posts are made that best suit the public welfare.

"heh"

And anyway, if the entire Human race was in danger, you'd think people would work together.

I suppose a bigger question is why with all the other technological advantages in the future to they settle on a flash light that can only stay on for a minute at a time... now THAT makes no sense.

It takes a lot of energy to run the shields/ motors in the suit? Not a lot left for the flashlight...maybe?

As for the U.N., it's not implausible that it would happen that way. In the Haloverse there was a communist/fascist/capitalist split, and the U.N. went the way of the capitalist.

Besides, when it comes to colonizing planets, there would almost have to be an international effort to do so. No other major power would sit around and let one country completely control an entire planet. At that point, and semblance of balance between nations is gone.
