I just saw a green monkey nut shot a small tan lizard(?) in a gunny sack.

Go read Cryptum, OP. It will explain many things.

Well, damn, we got ourselves a psychic here. I mean, reading both my and the OP's brain, and determining who has more knowledge about the book.

I've known Cobra since 2009, he knows me well enough to make a logical assumption like that. Cryptum has been the subject of debate and discussion for me ever since it was released, I'm sure you'll indulge my ego here, but I have actually spoken to Greg Bear about various aspects of the novel and he even confirmed the working title for the final Forerunner book in MY thread.

Well, I know he's read Cryptum and is really knowledgeable about it. But you are sayign he needs to read it, implying you think you do know something he doesn't know.

What exactly does he seem to not know though?

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

The shield worlds seem to have a knack for forcing ships inside.

ONI doesn't stand for the Office of the Neurologically Impaired. They've got a shady agenda, but they're not idiotic nor omniscient. I don't think they knew about Requiem at all.

Mona Lisa.

It made sense to me. Get a bunch of people who can drop of the grid without anyone caring and test a new biological weapon that could be used against the Covenant on them.

They just didn't realise the extent of the Flood's abilities. What happened on the Mona Lisa probably helped them formulate new UNSC regulations in the event of Flood incursion.

Boy I'd love the rebels to get their hands on that info.

When you play with the Flood, you all drown. Not a good idea.

I was going with the info that the government was killing it's own people with a parasite.

Knowing ONI, they would probably deny it all or say that they didn't do it, some rouge agent did.

Not because I don't believe you, I just want to see what Greg had to say.

Tried looking up Silentium. Didn't have a definition, got red lined.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

Looking too deep IMO. Attempting to find significance in insignificant things.

Just take it at face value. The game comes out before the year ends. Speculate if you will. But just a waste of time.

We still know very little in the big picture of things. Beyond the source materials in the Greg bear novels everything in the game is subject to change.

"Dude, what are you doing right now?"
"Uhh... Heh, my mom."
"Dude... What?"

Got lost in a trail of info links...

People on IGN are stupid, btw.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

So, I'm guessing the orange light that blasted through Infinity was an effect of the Forerunner Vision? In that case, was the light visible just as an effect, or is it actually supposed to be visible?
From what I've seen in the game, it is only visible for the player that uses it. Or have I misses something?

This brings me to my second question, and that's what/who uses the Forerunner vision. What's capable of using it, can any Forerunner thing use it? I'm wondering, cause when the orb (the flying Cryptum or whatever it is) scans the MC, the effect is totally different.

In other words: what does Forerunner Vision do, other than just being a scanner? Why was the Infinity scanned with it, instead of whatever other scanner the Forerunners have?

At first I thought that is was especially meant to scan for humans, since that's what one sees when using it in multi, but from H:A we know that 343 scanned the Piller of Autumn, without any orange light...

I'm going to by pissed of if it's just a new cool effect.

心の中に弱い風が吹いています。

I find it odd though that whatever it is that wants the humans on Requiem would go through the trouble of forcing the Infinity down and then hunting the humans with whatever defensive AI is on the shield world. If the intent was to kill them off why crash the ship in order to do so? Unless of course Requiem doesn't have any external weapons that could do the job instead.

What also doesn't make sense then is why they would be hunting the Master Chief when he's considered a Reclaimer. The retaliation by the defensive AI on Requiem doesn't make sense. If they're intent was to collect humans on the world then I could understand the mobilization of those defensive AI against the Covenant, but not the humans.

And the slogan, "An Ancient Evil Awakens". Maybe the Infinity was forced down in order to commandeer a large enough ship for whatever it is to get off world along with an army with it. But after reading Cryptum, each shield world should have plenty of Forerunner ships on them. So that really doesn't make sense either.

@ Bryanesie:

My theory is that the supposed--at the moment--good guys, the ones guiding Chief, are in need of help and therefore force the Infinity to partake in the conflict.

I suppose it'll be similar to Primordium: a lot of factions fighting for control over the installation, or a specific part of it.
