It's possible it's due to ricochet. I know that when I stand on top of an Elite and fire the sniper rifle straight down, it hurts me. Then again, the same thing happens if you fire straight at the ground with an AR....It also happens if you freeze an AI, kill him, walk through him, and fire your gun.
But I don't think that is why, as I can also instant kill him by meleeing. Typically, 11 melees deplete his shield but with this glitch, the 11th melee deals death.
That video was .gif worthy.
And about the Multiplayer vs. Campaign thing, sometimes you just have to accept it. Halo 2 had one of the first sustainable multiplayer, and now that people have something that's new and fresh every time they hit the search button, they have no reason to go back to Campaign.
For example, I flipped out when someone figured out you could hijack a Seraph on LNoS. And then when someone simplified it you had to simply get on the Pelican and EMP a Seraph, I decided I would try it (because the first method was was unpractical and hard).
I rounded up 2 other people to help, one I met it H3, another a month ago in Reach. One would go outside the map and watch to see if EMP'ed Seraphs stayed down or not, another would manage the covies and marines, and the last person would EMP the Seraphs. I was the EMP'er. After a 3rd successful EMP, one stayed down. We both committed suicide and respawned by the guy on the outside. Since this Seraph was a mini, we had to crash it to get more, real-sized ones. We rounded up 3, one for each of us.
And quite honestly, getting that was one of the funnest glitches I had ever done. No moment in multiplayer could ever live up to that. However, most people would consider it too hard and a waste of time. Some argue why not just game-save one in?
TL:DR : People are lazier because of multiplayer, and don't play videogames anymore for the singeplayer.
