Reecey. One of halo's biggest fans. Played halo CE. Halo 2. Halo 3. Halo 3:ODST. Halo wars. and Halo Reach. My account for halo 3/odst was viReeceii, Don't play on it anymore, I forgotten my login for hotmail :(

Add me on XBL: Reecey94 for a game or two :)

Okay, so throughout the Halo series you see the long sword bomber. In halo 1 chief is flying one in the ending cutscene. It's also seen in Halo 3 and probably other Halo's. It was fun flying the Sabre in Reach but does anyone else think It would be possible to fly the bomber?

What a waste....

No one knows yet. I don't think so, since there probably wouldn't be any reason for it.

They said that there will be a special set piece vehicle scene where a unique, huge vehicle is driven.

It could be the longsword, but more likely it's that new mech thing seen in the campaign demo.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I've been holding out for a Seraph piloting mission since Halo 2... Sadly, it's not to be.

You can fly a seraph in Reach through a glitch/easter egg.

That hardly counts since you can't do anything with it to further the mission. I'm thinking more along the lines of Halo 2's Banshee sections but more... Seraph-ied?

Man I'd love to fly a Longsword. But I'm inclined to agree with the general consensus it's unlikely it'll happen. But just imagine...

Breaking through the cloud cover a squadron of Longswords form up around a centered fighter-bomber. Cut to the Chief in the cockpit manipulating the control yoke "I've got lead" he says as he begins a dive towards the deck. Cut to a female UNSC pilot (WARHAMMERS DAUGHTER OMGLOLZ!) flipping switches behind the controls of another Longsword. "You heard the chief, keep an eye on your six, watch your wingman, and lets blow these Covie sonsa-blam-s off this rock!"

Back with the Chief you hear a bunch of "affirmatives, understoods, ect" and at least one war-whoop. Now the mission begins having you engage enemy seraphs in atmo. Lots of frantic
dogfighting through canyons and around mountains as you work your way to a primary objective, some Covenant facility or rather. You kill a bunch of enemy fighters as well as using some of your bombers payload destroying ground troops, wraiths and the like.

Cortana speaks over the com letting the squadron know "Primary objective coming into range." You see a large Covenant structure come into view. Right at that moment your Longsword gets hit by anti-air, klaxons begin blaring and lights flashing all around the interior of the cockpit. "We won't be able to keep her in the air much longer" Cortana warns you, "Maybe if we can land in the field around the facility-" The Master Chief cuts her off with a short "Can't" you see him pulling hard on the yoke and flipping switches on the console. "What do you mean can't?!" Cortana is incredulous "There's plenty of... Oh" at this time you see a Scarab climb over a hill and park directly in the field she was suggesting, right in front of the Covenant base.

Cut back to MC in the Longsword, "Stand by, I've got an idea" he says as he begins to undo his restraint harness. Cortana is curious "What are you... oh no. No, Chief this is a bad idea!" 117 responds with "What? I thought you liked crazy?" Close up of the control console, you see his gauntleted hand flip one last switch. The read-out shows 'ALL WEAPONS ARMED- SAFETY RELEASE OFF-'

Cut away to a wide shot (war-journalist style) of MC's smoking Longsword bank till it's on a collision course with the Scarab. Cut back to the cockpit, the Chief is now standing next to the command seat, he jams the throttle bar all the way open turns and makes a beeline for the cockpits airlock at the back of the command room. Slamming into the airlock door at full Spartan II sprint he smashes the door off of its railing and holds tight to it as both he and the door sail out into freefall.

Cut back to the wide shot right as the flying-bomb slams into the scarab.

stop.

-MASSIVE EXPLOSION- Cortana screams "JOHN!"

resume.

Still in the wide shot, you see a small speck fly out the back of the Longsword right before impact. Cut to a shot from the ground beneath the exploding Scarab. You hear Cortanas voice shouting "Locking armor!" right before impact. The Chief hits the ground at high speed and rolls until he slams into a piece of destroyed debris, kicking up dust and dirt the whole way. Cut to close up of the Chief as he gets to a knee, and then stands amid the burning wreckage of the Scarab and Longsword. Cortana holo-projects herself onto a piece of the wreckage and raises her hands, now balled into fists, to her head and lets out a roar of fear and frustration. "GAAAAGH!!" She visibly calms down as you see terror melt to nervousness melt to admiration all play across her face. She appears to look down towards Johns feet and asks "What is it with you and doors anyway?"

The Chief says nothing, he just turns from looking at her projection up to the Covenant Base before him. End scene as he's standing there with Pelicans landing behind him dropping off troops and vehicles.

---------------------------------------------------------------

I think that would be fun.

He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
We are in the hands of infinite power and infinite sadism

You can fly the longsword in the Halo: Custom Edition, although thats hardly authentic...
I think it would either be between the Cyclops v.2 or that big Elephant-like transport vehicle seen in the trailer.

In the weird example given. Why not ram the longsword into the building they clearly want destroyed?

  • 06.19.2012 5:46 PM PDT

I cap fools.

I really want to see Star Wars Battlefront- like space battles where you start in a carrier ship, board a Longsword/ Pelican, board and either destroy an enemy carrier from the outside or land in the enemy's hanger and destroy it from the inside. That would be cool for Halo.I doubt it would ever happen though.

Weird? I'm hurt, but really it's a matter of game design. I mean, yeah he could try to blow up the building instead of the Scarab, but then the player wouldn't get the opportunity to fight his way through the base as it's getting destroyed. You'd lose a really cool experience for the gamer to enjoy. If you want a story reason, if MC didn't blow up the Scarab it would likely destroy a lot of the UNSC forces in the area before it was brought down.

Heh, cause we all know that the Chief is the only one who can kill Scarabs, heh.

But, then what happens to the longswords behind Chief? They could take it down/bomb the building :P.

  • 06.19.2012 6:29 PM PDT

I think one mission would be ok.

But I prefer Chief on the ground. Any normal human can fly a long sword. Not just anybody can kick ass like Chief does.

Basically Chief is needed more so on the ground. Being a pilot restricts you to the limitations of the plane.

Oh that's what I was saying! They're bombing the base while Chief is fighting through it, so it's coming down on top of him. *insert actual reason he would need to go inside*

Perhaps new intel or something of the kind.
