Subject: Save a Forum Thread as a File Idea

Most of us know about saving a thread to your profile, that way you can go back to it without actually looking for it in the forums.

I was wondering, would it be possible to have a "Save" link that enables you to save the entire thread as a downloadable text or even html file?

What do you think of this possible new feature?

Why would this feature be necessary?

Eh. It might be more beneficial to the mods. But as for me. I like to archive The News and sometimes even Deej's threads. I just think it would be a kewl feature.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Sounds like it would take up a lot of space.

Who the hell do you think I am?

I remember hearing a while ago that the entire data for this forum could fit on a single average flash drive, so I don't think one thread would take up much space.

Could be useful for if a forum gets removed like the Optimatch I suppose, otherwise I don't see much use for this.

Your average page is less than 500kB, so it depends on the size of the thread. Anyway, it'd be the user's choice, so it wouldn't matter.

I say this would be a cool feature but not really a necessary addition.

The data? Perhaps. The pages themselves? Absolutely not.

  • gamertag: [none]
  • user homepage:

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

It would be an interesting idea, but I could only see it being useful for "dead" threads, as hot topics are ever-expanding, and therefore would require constant saving.

File > Save Page As...?

He means the whole thread without having to do that for every page in the thread.

If we had the option to grab topic data (without scrapping) in some format (eg. JSON, XML/RSS), creating a program to fetch and display it (eg. XSLT) would be trivial.

2/15/12: Francisco Porras, I'll miss you. Rest in Peace.

I know I would use it. I have a ton of threads saved for Breaking-in articles.
