Hi, recently I started playing Halo PC again, and I noticed that when I run at 1280x1024, AF doesn't seem to be applied. However, when I run at 1280x960, you can definitely tell AF is being applied. Does this happen to anyone else? My Specs are as follow

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
Sapphire Radeon X1900XTX
DFI LanParty UT Ultra-D
1GB RAM

is your monitor a 4:3 monitor or a 5:4(most commonly a 17" or 19" lcd) because the fact that one is squished or stretched would affect how everything looks.

It's a 5:4 monitor, so 1280x1024 would be the correct resolution. However, the lack of AF bothers me quite a bit. I set it up in my drivers so that it centers the image on my screen if I have to use a resolution smaller then native. By doing this I lose 1280*32 pixels on the top and bottom. I do have the latest drivers, the Catalyst 6.5s.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Um...try turning AF on in your "catalyst control center." All those options can easily be forced on or off. You should max out all available graphics options but leave AA (anti-aliasing) to off or application preference because Halo does not support it. At 1280x1024, your x1900xtx isn't going to break a sweat with Halo. AF should be at 16x or as high as possible.

On the other hand, in Halo MP, framerate is very important, so don't sacrifice kills for eye candy when you play on-line.

Dude, with specs like that, the only reason why you're not playing at 1600 x 1200 is probably because of the resolution your monitor supports.

Don't worry about AF while playing on multiplayer. Worry about it when H2PC comes out.

OK, I believe AF makes textures look better at far distances, I think that is what it's for, but I don't think its right....

oh,

If that is your problem then just say so.

The thing is halo engine when things are farther away it uses a lower polygon model and even sometimes a lower res texture. It isn't your computer it is just the game engine.

I would say the reason it happens is because it is more visible when you have it set to a widescreen.

You don't beleave me, Open and map file you will find like 5 different models of the banshee and stuff. This is so when you play it will switch the models depending one your distance from the object. Simple coding really, yet really makes a difference in framerate when playing the game.

Well maybe it just looks that way running on a lower rez, I mean if it is a driver issue maybe you can try forcing it on with some 3rd parrty software.

See i have a spazzy 19 inch LCD moniter that supports standard RGB cables along with DVI, when i lower the rez the GFX seem to get blured pertty badly on this moniter but my CRT has a less noticable impact. But anywho I cant stand playing Rez's lower than 1280x1024 anymore

Oh and sinice were on PC's my pc is...

2 eGeforce 7600's GT 256 megs PCIe on a ASUS mobo with nvidia SLI4 chipset, 6.1 srround sound, 160 gig SATA Maxtor HD, Hauppauge TV tunner with a built in MPEG 2 encoder, 1024 megs of DDR 3200 ram, AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 CPU over clocked, and a 19 Inch Samsung LCD moniter with DVI support.

AF wasn't supported in Halo. Same with AA. You could try it, but for the most part, all it seems to do is slow down the game with no visual changes.

Well I don't know what I did, but now AF won't turn off at 1280x1024 lol, although it's not at 16x like I want it to be. Anyways to illustrate the difference here are 2 screenshots of the main menu.

1280x960 no AF

1280x960 16xAF

Notice how in the second screen shot, the parts of the ring that are farther away seem much crisper.
