Because I have the strangest feeling the other thread on it will be swiftly locked.

I've never been one to cuss out of turn, nor use a curse word with such frequency as that it would negate any meaning my posts have, but somehow I find the filter to be a hindrance to even my posts. I cannot discuss things of a certain nature in the private groups without having to resort to a particularly large thesaurus and have the same hope that those who read my post will do the same thing.

I propose in New Hawtness 7.0 that a system similar to that which Blizzard uses on its MMORPG World of Warcraft, where there is a filter and it is by default turned on with the ability to turn it off. And/Or possibly removing certain words from the filter due to their not holding much impact anymore with the world at large.

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea. Have it enabled as default so new users wouldn't see bad words without turning it off etc.

  • 06.19.2012 1:17 PM PDT

That's a good idea.

Check out my Soundcloud account to hear some of my music.
Here's my twitter, in the off-chance you want that too.

Bye.

Did you know that the clothing company French Connection United Kingdom is blammed? I was shocked and/or appalled.

With the new partnership with activision and cross console integration of the website for destiny, we might just see a new list that works a little better in the forums than the current list of "Bad Words" from microsoft.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I think it's a pretty good idea. The way I see it, the majority of the users on bnet are mature enough to know what the words are in the first place, and even more mature that they don't really ever see a need to use them.

Why hello there.

I like this idea.

As long as I can change -blam!- to -potatoes!- I will be happy.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a script for that.

All the world's for living when love is what you find
Despair and loneliness you've got to leave them far behind
Tell the clouds to go let the feeling show
It's great when life is full of living

Perhaps the ability for it to be toggled on and off in private groups by admins as well.

Color The Sky
Lost In Las Vegas
Missed You

Remember all
The sadness and frustration
And let it go

I like this idea. As well as something similar for the spam filter.

Key

At the very least, whether it be for reasons related to liability or morality, or just as a final check, I think that before it's toggled off there should be a pop-up that says something along the lines of:

Are you 18/16/whatever years of age or older?

[Yes] - [No]

or

Are you sure you would like to remove the profanity filter?

[Yes, I am sure.] - [No, I do not want to remove it.]

Sometimes starting back from square one does good...

Ask smart questions
http://catb.org/esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

That means all the posts before a certain date will always have -blam!- in them and only those after that date might be able to have a setting, since the posts content actually changes when you post it and the words are replaced with -blam!- (or that's what I assume happens)

  • 06.19.2012 7:03 PM PDT

It would be a fantastic idea.

Considering once I quote a post that had a swear word in it originally, it's turned into "-blam!-" in the plain-text version, I would assume you are correct.

I agree, I've run into similar experiences on private fourms.

Error 404:

Which -blam!-?

You mean -blam!-
or -blam!-?

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

I think everybody would just end up turning the filter off. I believe it's there to keep authority over what people say...... something like that I guess.

Isn't profanity against the rules? Rather or not it offends you seems irrelevant. Bungie said no soooo no.

It's "against the rules" so as to not offend people (I would assume). I wouldn't imagine Bungie has any sort of anti-cursing agenda. By turning off the filter (if you were given the option), you signify that you're okay with seeing people's swearing and accept any consequences thereof (not that I can see any that could come about).

Also I would like to point out foul language is very unprofessional. Bungie allowing people to use it reflects upon them. It's not just about offending people. I seriously doubt there would be a circumstance where Bungie would allow language.

I was under the impression that the profanity filter is made to make it more inconvenient for users to make unstructured arguments or rebukes.

If that were the case, then why not just get rid of the -blam!-, have nothing register at all? Profanity is here, just thinly veiled behind three constants and a vowel.
