Ah, someone leaked. Now to find the leak and.... plug it.
With justice.

I use coup 5
Never Played halo 1 = Invalid opinion
Bloom isn't whats broken, its your idea of what good is and your opinion
Thats like saying uber nerf armor lock because like 20 percent of the community hates it. Oh wait..................

Interesting ideas all around here.
many ingame systems use this, and a few forums... but Bungie has always been known for traditions, I don't see the -Blam- system getting anything more than a longer list of bad words and a few bug fixes.

-K

I foresee a whole new variety of groups mainly focusing on fan fiction about The Master Chief and his female counterpart, IF that certain curse word beginning with the sixth letter of the alphabet comes into uncensored use.

  • 06.19.2012 10:15 PM PDT

How about when the new Hawtness comes out, the profanity filter can only be deactivated after a certain amount of time (or a certain age of an account)? For example: A person who makes a new account today will not be able to see profanity. However, someone as... gracefully aged such as the OP, can?

  • 06.19.2012 11:09 PM PDT

Thank you Bungie,

See you starside.

Well, I think that Bungie might be attempting to keep a certain tone on the boards, and maybe curse words aren't part of that tone.

That being said, I would welcome such a change.

This is rather a very interesting point.

I am a Floodian

I would be fine with it, and would love the ability to pick which words to turn on and off. I would probably keep most of them on. I've grown attached to -blam!-

  • 06.20.2012 4:19 AM PDT

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

This. I think being banned because of swearing on a site such as this is pathetic. My last ban was for the this reason, despite it being a joke (which was apparently irrelevant).

This site is far too innocent and paternal at times.

At the very least, whether it be for reasons related to liability or morality, or just as a final check, I think that before it's toggled off there should be a pop-up that says something along the lines of:

Are you 18/16/whatever years of age or older?

[Yes] - [No]

or

Are you sure you would like to remove the profanity filter?

[Yes, I am sure.] - [No, I do not want to remove it.]

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

We should also be able to change what words the filter blocks out.

Its also annoying due to some of the filtered words not being cuss words at all, rather just regular words that have somehow made it onto the system.

Rain, and Jazz.
Halo: Tactical

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

I don't think that works because the -blam!- filter changes the words in the post to -blam!-, not covers them.

It would cause an increase in people who actualy type out "-blam!-" though.

"Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

Get at me

I think we should be allowed to submit some sort of request for certain words to be removed from the filter. I have a list of words that I feel shouldn't be filtered. Obviously I can't list them here, but I think everyone pretty much agrees that some words shouldn't be filtered.

I hold no illusions that removing the -blam!- filter would make previously posted text readable, it wasn't the goal in the first place. My goal would be to make talking about certain topics easier, and making this forum a more open experience.

  • 06.21.2012 3:59 AM PDT

Well it seems to me that if you wanna talk about -blam!-, -blam!-, or -blam!- you're gonna have to go elsewhere, Sage. Unless you wanna handle things the American way and sue the ass behind this whole scheme. I'm all for a class-action law suit against this site's administration for discrimination. LET'S DO IT! AMERICA! -blam!- YEAH!

small edit: oh and for the record for whatever reason it does only cover it up in PMs. If you quote them it shows the swear word, completely defeating the point. Go ahead. Try it. I'll swear at all of you all day long, you sons of -blam!-bag -blam!- -blam!- -blam!- kite-sailing -blam!- horse dick -blam!- juicers.

I vote for this. The profanity filter is way too strict.

Man of God. Fan of Bungie. Eater of many Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers.

Considering other things that could be changed to improve the Bungie.net experience, you need to keep in mind that this is going to be at the bottom of their 'To do' list. That's not to say this isn't a good idea. It should, in my opinion, at least be implemented in private groups. If not the entire website.

Yeah I'd be ok with this. I'm not really offended by cursing. I mean, I hear it everyday uncensored in real life. Why should it be censored on the internet?

I'd like to think that they have the time to implement such a feature between when new hotness comes out and old and busted came in

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Honestly, I've never had a problem figuring out how to say what I want to say.

If you need a thesaurus to get around using bad words, you don't need a thesaurus; you need an education.

The only kind of people I can see having a reasonable and genuine problem with the profanity filter as it currently stands are those who have an obsession with discussing sex orientation or Hitler's political party and are tired of typing out long-winded workarounds. These topics are almost never appropriate in the public forums anyway, so the incredibly low frequency in which you would have to come up with a workaround in a legitimate, rule-abiding discussion in the public forums is not really worth complaining about.

If you're worried about being able to use profanity in private groups, please get real. Are you really complaining about this or is summer vacation THAT boring? Evading the profanity filter is so easy a caveman can do it. In ten different ways. And I don't know of any private group administrators who prohibit this in their groups.

Getting around the filter is easy I admit, but I'd rather it not exist.
And my summer vacations area always this boring.
