Subject: Mute ban?

I am not sure if I am mute banned or not. Maybe someone here can answer my question. I quit halo reach, and after a little over a year and a new xbox, I came back to reach. Because of my new xbox, my nat was moderate, so I could not hear anyone in MM. It did not bother me though because I didn't even have a mic. In the pregame lobby, the people who (or the people who I believe to) have mics would always appear muted. Not everyone was muted, and if I got into another pregame lobby with the same person, they would be muted again. I would unmute them and their would be no mic symbol. I thought that once I opened my nat, it would be fine. I opened my nat, and yet I have the same problem. I am not sure if I am mute banned or not. I have not had a mic since I started playing reach again, and I have been offline for over a year, so it makes me question if it is a mute ban or not. Hopefully someone has some ideas. Thanks!

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

IIRC, you are able to mute someone despite whether or not they have a microphone plugged in. I'm not sure if the mute registers though, and only gets counted if they are muted when a microphone is plugged in. That being said, the mute ban lasts (and shows via that symbol) whether or not microphones are plugged in after the ban has been issued; so that can account for seeing someone muted but not having a microphone plugged in - it's part of the punishment. I don't think it's a relationship to your NAT settings at all.

It's also unknown if you a mute banned. The only way you would is if you could message someone to tell you if you are or not, or to see if anyone responds to you in-game. It's an idiotic ban, IMO: you don't have any idea if you have one, how long you have one for, and what you've done wrong. People I'm sure have been muted for the sole purpose of having a microphone and assuming that they're some rambling child who's going to ruin their experience; heck I've come across non-English speaking gamers who have been muted because they don't speak English. Be better off if it didn't exist.

Hi All,

I too am having a similar issue as the OP. I read somewhere that you receive multiple warnings before being 'globally muted' but i haven't received any warnings and didn't even know about it until I couldn't hear anyone and started googling what my issue might be.

I can hear and speak to my teammates but can't hear or speak to opposing players but my teammates can and we are not in a party at all. I attempted to contact Bungie support but was notified that as of March 31st all support goes through Xbox Live. I spoke to multiple representatives of Xbox Live who told me different things all relating to Xbox settings such as NAT etc which I've tried.

Does anyone have any additional information about this and how I might go about fixing my issue?

You guys really need to take your mute ban appeals over to 343i. WARNING. They are 95% of the time not going to overturn it.

If you can talk to teammates, you are not mute banned. Your settings are set to Team and Party only.

That's the thing. I am trying to figure out if I am actually mute banned or some weird glitch where it appears that nobody has mics.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

Some helpful advice.

Who cares. Most Halo players aren't worth talking to anyway.
Plus... the game give you more than enough visual cues of what's happening on the battlefield that communication isn't even needed to function as a proper team. You just need observational skills.

Talking skills, get in the way of observation skills.

You'll know what I mean when you find that team of telepaths that work flawlessly with each other without uttering a single word.

well I have played competitive gaming for years and I understand the importance for communication. Its not as important for casual gaming though. Truthfully, I am more worried about Halo 4. I dont want to get the game and find out I have the same problem. If it is a mute ban, then I would be happy because it would not transfer to halo 4

The herpaderp returns. Sorry guys, but you might as well start a new thread, because this guy, much like derpshelf, is the kiss of death to any kind of conversation.

OT: Again, if you can talk to your team and party, then it's your game settings. If nobody can hear you, it's a mute ban.

I have never seen what the mute ban looks like, and I just heard about it. So if you are right, then it is a mute ban.

Alright, I got it figured out. Thank for all the help. In the audio visual section, there is a setting to mute voice (which to me is a stupid setting) and I had it checked. lol. So all players were muted and I was muted.
